Next thing I knew, I woke up shouting while someone kept on gripping my arms tightly.

“No! Sammy! Help! No! Please!”

“Sally, it’s alright! You’re okay now!” By the time I heard that familiar voice, I started to calm down. Not even realizing I’m in a hospital bed. Turning to the direction of the voice, I said,

“Mom…” inspite of the pain I felt, my heart leapt with joy the moment I saw her beside me. I always know she’s been there all the time, waiting for the time I wake up.

“Yes, it’s me..”

“Oh, mom! I’m so scared!” throwing my hands around her, embracing her tightly.

“I’m here, baby. Don’t worry…”

“Sammy? Where is she?” I asked in a monotonous voice.

She didn’t gave an answer, so I asked again, making sure I will say it to her more clearly.

“Mom, where is Sammy? Is she okay?” I stared at her, seeing those misty eyes, until tears were beginning to roll down her cheeks.

“Mom? Why? Wh— Where is she?” my voice becoming more hoarser than ever.

“I’m sorry, Sally… She’s gone.. She didn’t make it.” My father spoke with piercing agony.

I can’t believe of what I heard. I can’t explain what I’m feeling inside. My heart was drowning with pain.

“Wh—what? No…. No! Sammy! You can’t!” I wailed, trying to stand out from the bed.

My mom’s trying to stop me, gripping my hands tightly.

“Sally! No! You have to stay!”

“But it’s Sammy! Please… No!” I cried harder “It’s my fault! All mine!”

“No, baby.. It’s not! It was an accident!”

“Accident?! You think it was an accident?! It’s not an accident, mom! They were chasing after us! They attacked us!” I shrieked.

“Chasing? What do you mean?” she asked with curiosity in her eyes.

“What were you running for?” Dad also asked, urging me to say something. I found myself trembling with terror while trying to form the words..

“It’s…. It’s…. It’s a….. W-wolf!” by the time I said it, there were more tears forming in my eyes.

Based from my parents’ looks, I could tell they were surprised, hardly believing the things I just said.

“Are you sure, baby? You were chased by a wolf?

“Yes! Yes, It’s true! I saw it! We saw it!”

“W-what?! I—“ but before mom could finish her sentence, dad cut her off.

“Why were they chasing you?”

“ I—I don’t know… all I could remember was, I heard Sammy shouting for help. So, I looked for her until I found her near a tree, knees pulled to her chest and tears rolling down her cheeks. Then… then the next thing I knew we… we were running down the woods.”

“Woods?”

“Yes. There were trees around us and it was getting very cold. After…. After that, It jumped over Sammy and bit me in the arms. Until—“I broke off. I really can’t utter the words very well. I can’t stop from stammering and shaking with terror. My arm is searing with pain and my head really hurts.

“it’s okay, dear. You better rest.” Dad said.

In my head, there were still words playing like ‘until he came and helped us. I could see how he killed one of the wolves and the other two, scared them away with his eyes.’ I calmed myself and laid down saying,

“Mom… Dad….” My voice was in a whisper.

“Yes, dear?” Dad turned.

“I want to see…. Sammy. Please….”

“Okay.”

They helped me to get on my feet and let me sit on a wheel chair. My dad was pushing the wheel chair while we’re going toward the door. We rolled down the hallway. After a while, we reached the room, where my sister is. My mom opened the door for us. We went to a bed, where a  blanket was covering the body. My mom uncovered it and I saw her. She looked so pale and frigid. The moment I touched her hand, she was so cold. Cold as ice. It brought me back to the woods, where she laid unconscious, holding her hand, feeling the coldness of her skin. Before I knew it, I was already crying hard as ever, while calling out her name.

“Sammy… Sammy! Oh, God! I shouldn’t… have! I’m very sorry, Sam! It’s all my fault! Sammy!”

I could also see my mom and dad crying too. But I was being pulled away from her, leaving the room. As we were going back to my room, there were tears in my eyes, blaming myself of what happened. She was only 12. Too young to die. Then I left her unconscious. Now, she can never see the world again. She will never be going back. How can I ever forgive myself for everything? My world seems to crash. Just then I heard my mom saying,

“Calm down, baby… It’s okay….”

Since the incident, I can barely talk with anyone. I haven’t even talked with my friends. My parents tried to cheer me up but my mind was only thinking for one: ‘my sister was dead, there’s nothing I can do now. If it weren’t for me’.

Days passed and my parents were so worried sick of my condition. The doctor said it’s only temporary. I was depressed by what happened. So depressed. There’s nothing more I could think of but only my sister, Sammy.

The following days, I was already home. Not in a hospital bed. But home. But where is home without Sammy?  She was only my sister. She was supposed to be my only playmate. The ome who cheered me up if I’m lonely. Always beside me. But I won’t be expecting that those days will happen again. The fact that Sammy was gone makes my world fall apart. Each day I spent my whole day lurking in my room. Crying. Not even bothering in going to school. My friends were trying to call me but I never bothered to answer one of them. There’s nothing I can do now without Sammy. She’s gone. She left me. Alone.
