You sit in your bedroom, hunched over your laptop, re-watching the One Direction video diaries. You look at your best friend for life, Liam, laughing with his new band mates. It has been just over a year since you convinced him to go out for the X-Factor, and a year exactly since he was put in his band. Today is also your 17th birthday.
*Flashback*
You sit up in your tree house, trying to ignore Liam's voice from behind you.
"Please Y/N!" he says.
"You missed me turning 5Liam!" You pout.
"I'm sorry! My mum made me go with her to her work thing!" Liam says. You look around to see 5 year old Liam looking at you with big brown puppy dog eyes. You run to him and hug him.
"I forgive you Li Li! Just promise me you won't miss my birthday again," you say sticking out your pink.
"Only if you never miss mine," he says as he hooks his pinky with yours.
*end flashback*
A smile creeps upon your face at the memory, then sigh when you remember this will be your first birthday without Liam being there since you were 5. You shut your laptop and throw on a flowy tank top, grey blazer, dark wash skinny jeans, and TOMS to match your shirt.You throw your hair in a braid and walk down the stairs.
"Hey mum. I'm off to the movies," you say grabbing your keys. You drive to the cinema, where you see your friends waiting. You join them and laugh and talk until the film starts. At one point in the film, your mind wanders back to a memory.
*flash back*
"Liam!" your 13 year old self calls. You and Liam are running up and down the beach. He's chasing after you with a bucket of cold salt water.
"I'm gonna get you Y/N!" he shouts. You glance behind to find him not there. You look around, and suddenly feel cold water running down your head. You whip around to find Liam laughing. You grab the bucket, fill it with water and splash some all over him. The chase continues for a while until it gets dark. You guys are both dry now, and wrapped up in a blanket by a fire your families have started.
You and Liam start laughing over something, and you look over at him. It was at that moment you realized you are in love with your best friend.
*end flashback*
After the film, you and the girls head back to your house. When you drive onto your street you see an unfamiliar car in your drive way. When you park in front of your house, you see someone standing on your porch.
"Liam," you breath out. Your heart beat increases as you get out of your car. You move as if you are in a trance.
"LIAM!" You shout as you realize it is him. You run to him as he lifts his head up.
"Y/N!" he runs over to you and wraps you up in a hug. He lifts you off the ground, and twirls you in the air as you hug. When he puts you down, you look at him and breath out, "You came."
"Of course! I made a pinky promise that I will keep forever," Liam says, tucking a stray strand of your hair behind your ear. Before you tell yourself not to, you crash your lips against his. He responds immediately, and you two stand in our front yard kissing. You pull away out of breath, but keep hugging him.
"I've wanted to do that ever since we went to the beach when we were 13," you say, looking at him.
"Same. I've missed you so much!" he says, kissing your forehead.
"Y/N, will you be my girlfriend?"
"Yes!" you say, giving him a quick kiss on his lips.
"FINALLY!" all your other friends scream. You blush as you think to yourself, Best Birthday Ever.
