I opened my eyes
A different room
I arrived in it a day ago
Throwing suitcases in and running out to see my home
I'm all the way across the world
Light hits my eyes, noon sun out in my window

A knock on my door and a sound of
"BEACH TIME YALLA LETS GOOOOO"

I sprint out of my pajamas and into a dark green two-piece
Teeth scrubbed mouth washed and hair persuaded into a bun

Grabbing the already heavy bag ready for the trip I
go down the spiraling stairs
And out the long concrete pathway

Looking up seeing an entirely blue sky
I can just imagine the stars like eyes that will be up there later blinking and shining
I get in the car
We move out of the garden onto the road to the seaside

The Lebanese air fills my lungs
The CD is spinning the songs of my people
Fairouz relaxes me knowing this visit will be a good one

Driving down the cliff, I see the white tips of the waves
My sister and I head out the car down the foot made stairs on the side of the hill.

The salinas all around us
The smell of salt stings my nose
The beach in front of me

The neverending big blue of the Mediterranean
Looking back at my cousins I feel my lips stretch into the widest smile and my eyes full of light
Like the suns and stars
