I woke up to the sound of water.
I sat up, feeling discomfort everywhere, and began to asses the situation. I was in a cell, probably underground from all the moisture. I felt a throbbing pain in the back of my head and reached back to feel the wound. Smelling the blood in the air was mine, I knew it was bad but the wound had clotted already so it should be okay for now.
I tried to stand and heard the metallic clink of the chains I now realized were around my ankle. There was little light from the lantern outside my cell, but I could easily identify what type of lock it was. Reaching back once again, I fished around in my hair and produced a small clip that I always had on hand. Fiddling with the lock for a few seconds there was a click And the chain fell from my ankle.
I tried to stand up again, slowly because of the throbbing and walked to the cell door. I looked around in case there were any guards down the hall, and seeing none, I quickly went straight to assessing the cell lock.
Within a few seconds, I was stepping into the hall and trying to find some sort of exit while being cautious of my surroundings. I found a set of stairs that went up and started my ascent.
I came to a rather intriguing iron door at the end and heard the muffled sound of laughter. I readied myself and hoping to catch whoever may have been behind the door off guard, I swung open the heavy door and then instantly regretted it. Because what was behind the door was worse than anything I'd ever seen.
