I didn't tell anyone about going to meet up with Joey.

I didn't even tell Ianah.

When my mom asked where I was going, I said I was just going to the park for a few hours to practice my gymnastics. Why would I tell her my real location? She could easily catch me.

I later learned that that was a huge mistake.

I got to the mall at 1:57.

I didn't expect him to be there right on time, but my stomach was fluttering, daring to kick up my Lucky Charms cereal from this morning. I pushed the feeling down.

I kept glancing at my phone to keep track of time.

It was 2:05.

All of a sudden a man walked up to me.

He looked to be in his mid-40's. He was freshly shaved and he smelled of Axe men's cologne.

"Hi, you must be Bella. My name is Tom, Joey's dad. Joey has told me all about you." He said politely. His voice was gruff, but kind.

I was taken aback when the strange man actually talked to me. But I quickly gained my senses and responded with,

"Oh, hi. Is Joey somewhere around? I'm really excited to meet him."

"That's the thing. Joey is super excited to meet you as well, but during his Baseball practice, he slid on to base and cut his leg up pretty bad. He has to get stiches. He is at the house now."

"Oh no! Is he okay???? Should we plan to meet another day?"

"Yeah, he is fine. He really wanted to meet you today though. So, I am offering to take you to the house so that you guys can talk. Okay?"

"Oh, yeah. That's perfect! Thank you!" My heart was overthrown by my mind. I couldn't wait to see Joey.

"No problem. My car is the black Cadillac. You can get in and we live, pretty close to the mall."

I walked swiftly to the car, Tom following close behind.

I got in the passenger seat and put on my seat belt, clutching my cell phone tightly in my hand.

The ride to his house wasn't too awkward.

He asked me questions about myself and we listened to music.

We pulled into the driveway of a nice house with a fountain in the front.

"Here we are! Joey should be inside."

The car rumbled to a stop and I got out.

I waited for Tom, as he walked me to the door.

He opened the door, as it was unlocked.

When we got inside, he turned around and locked the door.

"Joey! You're friend is here!"

No response.

"He is probably out back, but he better be off that leg. He knows what the doctors said!"

We tread through the house and to the back.

I was in front of Tom.

When we got to the backyard, there was no Joey.

Only a large wooden shed.

My eyes grew big as I realized my fate.
