unlike so many parents i know
you understand me

and not giving up on me
not when it was hard
not when i came out
and not when i decided my dreams
weren't exactly what you had planned
you've created the person i am today
for all my accomplishments
there is a sliver of pride in it for you
feel proud of yourself
you taught me my rights from wrongs
my ups from downs
you taught me that i'm okay
