A new start

No one expected me to achieve anything in life, everyone always had low expectations for me. Well, I certainly proved them wrong and myself in the process. I never expected myself to be where I am now, Rome, Italy playing piano for a huge crowd.

How did I get here? You may ask.

That's a long story but I guess I will have to start at the beginning.

I am from a small town in Ohio. People say I am not normal, but I just say the most normal thing is abnormal, everyone is different. The only thing I enjoy about life is music, I love it. Music can tell a story, it can be anything you want it to be. Music is the only thing I can see myself doing in the future, it is the only thing that matters to me.

I sent in a recording of me playing piano to the biggest music school in the country. The National School of Music, and I found out that I, Annie Lawson, got accepted on scholarship. The only way I could attend is if I am on a scholarship. My parents don't believe I can do anything, so they would never pay for me to attend. I am here to prove them wrong.

I think that for me to succeed, I have to set rules for myself, and fallow the rules that come with the scholarship. The scholarship requires 3 things:

1: I have private lessons several days a week

2: Keep a 4.0 G.P.A in school.

3: Ace every playing test.

For my own rules, I have several that I have established over the years.

1: Trust no one.

2: Exceed others expectations for you.

3: Prove everyone that they are wrong about me.

4: Be better than my best.

5: Remember and learn from mistakes.

6: Don't let others down the way I have been.

7: Hold on to every good memory.

8: Remember every sacrifice I have made to get where I am today.

9: Make people believe I can succeed.

10: Do not fall for a guy. Ever.

"Hi, my name is Annie Lawson."

I looked at the lady behind front desk that was wearing way to much make up.

"Oh yes, Annie, here is you information packet, your schedule, and room key."

"Thank you." I said before I walked out of the front office.

On the bright side, all the new kids are my age so I won't be the "new girl" I hate being the new, weird girl. I pulled the school map out of the information packet. My mom said my stuff should already be in my room, knowing my mom it won't be there, she probably messed that up to. My room is number 133, that should be on the east side of campus, to the right. My feet come out from under me, I fall to the ground. Something heavy falls on me.

"I am so sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going."

A boy about my age got off of me and offered me a hand. Being the prideful person I am, I ignored the polite jester. I stood up and looked at him. Sandy blond hair, the bluest eyes, and light tan skin. He had a nice body... Annie! I stopped myself from thinking those horrid thoughts.

"No, I wasn't watching either."

I replied.

He smiled. It was the best smile I think I have ever seen. He stared at me and I stared at him. It's like we where searching for something rare that could only be found in the other person's eyes or something. I realized what was happening. I bent down and grabbed my bag and my map. As I stood back up, he was bending down to retrieve his stuff. I took the opportunity to briskly walk away. By the time I had almost made it to the wall by the oak tree, he noticed I had left.

"Hey!"

By the time he said that, I was out of sight.

That was close. Man, I hope the other boys are not like him at all, or I am in big trouble. I spot the east dorm rooms and search for 133. Most kids here have roommates but I was lucky, no one rented most of the sweats because there is no gender separation. I may have a boy bunking in the room next to mine. I don't really mind it as long as my neighbor does not bother me.

I finally locate sweat 133. I get my key and unlock the door. The room is fantastic, it's got a mini kitchen, a bathroom, a laundry room, a bedroom, and a living room. My stuff is actually in here! My mom actually got it here.

My parents are filthy rich, I had a hard time getting a scholarship here because of the money they make. When the school heard that they would not pay for me, someone pulled some strings and got me in.

My mom may think that I will not succeed at anything, but she still loves me and treats me like a daughter. My mom is a fashion designer. That means I have a really big closet. I only packed a small portion of my shoes and clothes, and I still ended up with a few boxes. My mom made sure I had everything I need, complete with my own washer and dryer even though the school has a laundry mat.

The sweat came with furniture so I didn't have to bother with that. The movers have obviously done a good job, they set the washer and dryer up, and put the boxes in the rooms they where suppose to go in.

I start unpacking right away. I don't have that much to unpack so I finish in a couple hours. I have way too many clothes so I put up my summer clothes in the closet and kept out my fall ones since it's September. I don't have any food in my fridge so I decide to head down to the grocery store.

I grab my coat and head out the door. I parked my car in the parking lot so I start heading over there. As I walk I take in the scenery of the campus. It's lush and green. There is a couple sitting under a tree kissing, a girl sitting on a bench writing in a notebook and a boy talking to his mother on the phone. I have always been real observant when comes to other people. I see the parking lot and get in my red mercedes.

I drive down the street to the nearest grocery store that's three blocks away, pretty convenient. NSM has a cafeteria that most students eat in, but I love to cook and most of the food in the cafeteria is junk. I walk into the store and grab a basket. I won't bother telling you everything about my trip to the store, I mainly just got all the normal stuff.

It's seven by the time I get back to my dorm room. I put the groceries away and eat a salad. I grab my information packet, looking for where a piano is so I can practice before term starts tomorrow. It looks like the school has rooms with pianos and other big instruments in them that students are welcome to use. I decided not to bring my piano because I have no room in my dorm. I grab my map and coat and walk out the door.

I walk into the studios and find one with a piano. I look through the window and the guy with blond hair is playing the piano. He is good. I am going to have to go up against him. Only the top player in each instrument usually goes on to succeed later. I quickly dart past the window and down the hall to another studio hoping he does not see me.

I sign the time log on the door and go in. Oh what do you know, the windows are not see through, I can't see outside the studio at all. I take off my coat and hand it on the hook. I start playing and get completely lost in the music but still thinking about what my new life will be like.
