Kayla was exhausted. As soon as she got home she threw herself on her bed and fell asleep.
"Kayla, Kayla," someone was calling her...softly...eerily.
"Wake up Kayla. We need to talk."
"Stan? Is that you Stan? What do you want to talk about?"
"Why didn't you tell me that you were pregnant with my baby Kayla?
Kayla gasped in surprise. "How did you find out? Who told you?
"It doesn't matter who told me. Is it true?"
"I don't know. I'm not sure."
"How could you let this happen Kayla? I only hit it once. Did you get pregnant on purpose?"
You're not being fair Stan, you could have used protection. Don't put all the blame on me."
"Well, what are you going to do about it? Have you decided?"
"I don't know. I just found out about it myself. I don't know..."
Kayla started to cry.
"Don't cry Kayla, we'll figure out something," Stan said as he paced the room thinking.
"Do you want this baby Stan? Our baby? Are you ready to be a father?
He stopped walking and stood in front of her closet as he considered her question.
"No I don't want a kid right now; I still want to go to college. I'm still young, I want to live a little before I become a father; date other girls, travel and see the world. I don't want to settle down, and I don't want a girlfriend with stretchmarks who looks like she swallowed a basketball."
"Oh Stan," Kayla rolled over on her bed and turned her back to him so he couldn't see her tears. "How can you be so horrible?"
"I'm being honest with you Kayla. I think we should get rid of the baby."
Kayla felt Stan as he moved and stood right beside her bed now, but she couldn't look at him. She was hurt by his words and his uncaring attitude about her when she might be carrying his baby.
"Open your legs Kayla."
"I can't. I don't want to have sex with you now," Kayla said still not looking at him.
"Sex? Are you fucking crazy?" Stan asked amazed as he placed his hand on her shoulder and forced her to face him. "I'm not going to fuck you! I'm going to get rid of the baby for you...for us," he ended coaxingly as he pried her legs open and attempted to stick the hook part of the coathanger between them.
Kayla screamed and jerked upright in her bed. She looked at the clock on her bedside table; it was still early...it felt like she had slept forever. She was woke now, but she couldn't stop shivering from the realness of the nightmare she had just had. She maneuvered herself to the side of her bed and sat there thinking as she quietly wept. There is no way in hell she was going to mention anything to Stan about possibly being pregnant; not unless she was absolutely sure...if then. It was just a dream...surely Stan wouldn't be such an asshole if he found out she was carrying his baby. Or would he?
The phone rang startling Kayla out of her thoughts. Stan? No. She sighed in relief when she saw that it was just Paris.
"Yes, uh, hello?" Kayla said into the mouthpiece.
"Hey Kayla. How have you been?" Paris asked.
"Fine. Why?" Kayla asked warily wondering if Shaundra had broke her promise.
"No reason. I just haven't seen you in a while. Not since you told me you were interested in Stan. How's that going."
"Oh yeah...that." Kayla said evasively.
"Are you okay? You sound funny."
Tears welled up in Kayla's eyes. Paris mentioning Stan's name was bringing back the horrible memory of the nightmare she had just had. She shivered.
"Kayla, are you okay?" Paris asked sounding worried.
Kayla took a deep breath and sighed heavily. "I'm okay. I just...I just..."
"Kayla, should I come over?"
"No! I just need some time alone. Please...I just had a bad dream. That's all."
"Do you want to talk about it? It might help...no pressure though."
Kayla decided to be partially honest to see if Paris could offer some advice. Paris dated a lot of college guys and was wise beyond her years about anything and everything that had to do with sex.
"I dreamed that I was pregnant with Stan's baby and he was being horrible about it. It upset me...that's all."
"Pregnant? Is there a chance? Have you and Stan been together?"
"I had sex with him once and neither of us used protection."
"Only once, huh? Well the odds of you getting pregnant are really slim, but it doesn't hurt to be precautious. Just take two tylenol that'll bring your period on within 48 hours. If it doesn't: uh-oh."
"Paris! How would you know something like that?"
"Remember I went to school with a bunch of snobs. Those girls used abortion as a method of birth control when this quick fix didn't work."
"You don't sound like you're too shocked to find out that I slept with Stan."
"Please, I'd be more shocked if you hadn't. But if you're going to be sexually active you need to protect yourself...against disease and unwanted pregnancy."
"I know, and I will. I don't ever want to go through something like this again. Not until I'm ready."
"Does Stan know? That you might be preggerz?"
"No! Please don't say anything...to anyone...especially Stan!"
"Of course not. Oh, btw, I called to tell you that I've decided to just have a regular party, no theme, no dressing up with Halloween right around the corner. I wanted you to help me spread the word. Are you going to come? It's gonna be a blast."
"Of course I'm coming. I'll be going with Kenny though...long story."
"Hmm Kenny, not Stan? Okay, I guess you know what's best for you. I've got to go so I can spread the word. Remember to tell everyone."
"I will Paris. Thanks for the advice. See you Saturday."
"Okay, bye."
As soon as she hung up with Paris, Kayla went into her bathroom and downed two tylenol...it was definitely worth a try. Having unprotected sex was really stupid, she knew that. She decided to go to the clinic and get some kind of birth control tomorrow after school. As she was planning on doing this the phone rang again.
This time it was Shaundra calling to check up on her like she had promised earlier.
"I'm fine Shaundra. I just spoke with Paris and she told me what I needed to do."
Kayla told Shaundra about their conversation and shortly thereafter ended the call.
"I'll see you tomorrow in school."
