Three shots were heard, along with the sound of a body falling to the ground.

--

With each step I took, the ringing in my ears became louder. The brisk wind that hit my face felt somewhat refreshing, but on the other hand, it didn't. My lungs began to hurt as I ran, my breaths becoming labored and harsh. I don't know how long I've been running for. But I can't stop running or I'll get caught by them. You don't need to know who, but all you need to know that they aren't good people at all. If I get caught, I'll never be able to live another day for sure.

After what felt like hours, I stopped in my tracks. I still had a gun, which I had to get rid of, so I threw it into a nearby lake. I watched the gun sink to the bottom as I walked away from it. I didn't know where to go, but I needed to get away. Anywhere that was far. Far drom where I came.

I found a small shack not too far from where I was before, and cautiously approached the building. Since I didn't have the gun as a defense, I pulled out the pocket knife I always kept on me, because you never know, right? The sound of the branch, snapping underneath my foot, scared the hell out of me.

Fuck. I shouldn't have gotten rid of the gun.

I crept around the shack to see if I could find any information, but couldn't find much. There were no traces of footprints or marks from any car tires, so I assumed that no one lived there, at least for now. Once I found the door of the building, I entered it. Suddenly a foul stench filled my nose.

"Fuck! That smell... It smells so fucking rotten... This place has to be abandoned, no one one in their right mind would stay in a place like this... eugh.. fucking disgusting." I cursed, looking around for anything that could be of use. After some time of searching around, all I could find were filthy sheets and blankets. And there was an old wooden chair near the wall. I was exhausted from running anyways, so I took a seat on the old chair and closed my eyes, falling asleep shortly after.

A few hours later I woke up from the pain that lingered in my back, groaning as I drowsily opened my eyes. Once my eyes were fully open, I noticed that a dark figure was looking down upon me. I couldn't see his face properly as the moon was shining in my face, but I could tell it was a man based of his build. I tried to move my arms, but to no avail. I was tied up on the ground, and I knew at this point that I'd surely be dead if I say something false now.

I try to ask the man a question, but could barely make a noise other than some inhumane sounds. My throat was dry as hell. He seemed to take notice of this, and made his way toward a bag that was placed in the corner of the room, searching for something inside. I flinched when he took out what he was looking for, assuming that it was some kind of weapon, but no. It was a flask.

He walked over to where I was sitting, kneeling in front of me and holstering the gun in his jeans. He opened the flask and pulled me up by the collar of my shirt, putting me into a sitting position. In pain, I groan and scrunch my nose as he puts the flask against my lips.

"Drink," He said quietly, making me lean forward to drink it. It was a bit of a struggle, but I was able to manage. After all, it's better than nothing.

He closed and put aside the flask, staring at me in silence. His cold gaze managed to scared me shitless, but I didn't exactly know why. He looked like as if he wouldn't hesitate to kill you at any second, if the chance was given. But what was he doing here in a place like this?

"Are you hiding too?" I decided to ask, breaking the silence between the two of us. He remained silent for a few minutes before giving me an answer.

"No."

"Then why are you here?"

"I was looking for you."

My heart skipped a beat when I heard that response. Is he one of those guys who were chasing me earlier? Was he send out to kill me? I wasn't willing to take the risk and die in this rotten shack. If he is one of their people, then he's surely here to serve me to them on a silver platter. I wasn't willing to die just yet. Fuck that.

I quickly looked around for anything I could defend myself with, seeing that the chair was the only thing I could use. Luckily, my legs weren't tied, and I made an attempt to kick the chair toward him. He quickly grabbed my leg before I could do so, squeezing my ankle as hard as he could.

A cracking sound came from where he had squeezed, making me shriek from the agonizing pain. It felt as if my leg had been bitten off, even though it was still in tact. Was this guy even human? He just grabbed my leg and squeezed it. No, squeeze is too gentle of a word. He fucking broke my ankle!

I bend over and pant, the pain in my leg being indescribable. It hurts too much, I can barely handle it. I've been hurt a lot but not as bad as this. But, if that already caused me immense pain, then I couldn't imagine how much worse the others were going to be once he would turn me in. Fuck. This isn't the future I was dreaming of back then.
