#1 The Best Friend.
I twirled a strand of my hair as I stared at my best friend, Alison, fix her makeup. Alison was without a doubt the prettiest person in the whole school. Everyone was wild about her. Plus she wasn't obnoxious, that's why, I, Stacy Morgan, was her best friend.
It was pre destined that I would always be a side character, and even after I was born, it was the truth. I was always shadowed by Alison's charisma, but she always treated me as an equal, so I didn't really mind. I also finally got used to not being a main character.
"Stacy! Come over to my house today" Alison said as she put her makeup into the bag.
"Sure" I replied as I headed for the door.
It was lunch time and we were heading to the cafeteria after Alison's pre-lunch makeup session. She wanted to live up to other people's expectation, that's why she always did her best to look perfect.
"Lis", a voice came from behind and suddenly Alison was on top of a guy's shoulder. And not just any guy's. Matthew Evans, the hottest guy in the whole school.
"Mattie! Let me down!" Alison's face became flushed as she squealed. Matthew spun her around once before placing her safely on the ground and kissed her forehead.
"Now, it's your turn Stace", he said turning towards me.
"It's fine" I put my hands up in defense. But Matthew ignored it and lifted me up; doing the same thing he did to Alison. Minus the kiss. As I was placed on the floor, I looked at Matthew's face. It was perfect. And everyone knew that a perfect guy needed a perfect girl.
And as we walked to the cafeteria, Matthew slung his arm around Alison's shoulder and as they walked, they looked like the perfect couple.
We had lunch at our usual table. the three of us sat alone, while everyone else stared at us. I felt awkward yet happy at the same time. Awkward because so many people were watching me stuff my mouth with food and happy because they were finally paying attention to me. However, I knew that the only reason they were even paying attention to me was because I was sitting with THE hottest couple. I knew I didn't belong here but Matthew and Alison always persuaded me to stay.
I sighed as the bell rang and we all got up to go back to class.

I was at the parking lot waiting for Alison. She had some unfinished business with Mr. Wright so she would be taking quite a while. She had told me to go on without her but I said that I was going to stay.
"Hey Stace, where's Lis?" a familiar voice, Matthew's, asked as he covered my eyes
"She's busy" I replied removing his hands off my face.
"Then let's go wait in my car. I'll drop you two" he said as he held out his car key and started walking towards his car. I quietly followed him.
I got into his car's backseat because the front seat was always for the girlfriend, everyone knew that.
Matthew played music. I listened to it. We never really talked all that much, usually our conversations would be about Alison and usually Alison filled the silence.
I watched as the breeze played with Matthew's hair. His fingers were lightly drumming on the steering wheel along with beat of the song as he hummed along with the music. I loved Matthew. I wanted to scream it out loud. The way he treated me the same as Alison, just so I wouldn't feel left out. I had stared loving him way before Alison had yet she got to him before me.
I watched as Alison walked out of the school, her hair falling perfectly in place, even with the wind. I watched as Matthew got out of the car and walked towards Alison and kissed her. I watched as they both walked to the car and Matthew opened Alison's door. It was clear they were in love with each other.
As the car started, Alison too had started reciting what had happened, I let a few tears escape. Though I loved Matthew, Alison was even more precious. And it was pre destined that I be the side character and since this isn't a fairy tale and I'm not a princess, I wouldn't be getting the guy. I would always simply be known as the best friend.
