Taking a seat on the train I opened the new book my mother had sent me as a present for taking a position within the family company. For years she and my father thought it would be ideal that after my post-graduate school travels I would come home to Korea and spend some time getting to know my culture as well as taking over the family business. Call it a little quirky of her buying me a book after finding out I agreed but she knows just how daunting the business can be when you're involved in one of the biggest gangs in Korea. At first, I despised the idea, coming back to a place overrun with corruption within the government and the gangs but that was minute compared to the possibilities of running into him again.

I tried focusing on the cracked book in my hand, gently rubbing my fingers along the imprint of the Sailor Moon bookmark and smirking at my mother's tenacity of never letting me live down that Halloween when I was sixteen. Tracing the cartoon's long blonde hair and the moon-shaped pendant across her forehead before getting lost in my thoughts and claiming defeat, I stretched out over the city center-bound train, putting in one of my earbuds and letting the long black strands of my hair cover them. "Ugh" I sighed into the burning silence annoyed at the lack of daylight, I looked down at the watch on my wrist, grunting at the shorthand pointing toward the two, and leaned my head back onto the cold silver railing. "Why did I catch an early morning plane from New York to Seoul, again?" I rolled my eyes as I remembered how many years I had been away. "It couldn't have been that long that I've forgotten the time difference," I snarled internally, letting my body sink more into the seat.

Turning my head to the surprisingly clean floor of the train, I caught a glance at my military-style black boots. Water fell from them like an untamed waterfall from the rain while making my way to Seoul Central Train Station. Folding my arms within each other to give myself some balance I lifted each leg, shaking the water from my boots. I leaned up placing my hood over my baseball cap then laid back down against the railing and closed my eyes. I started to slowly drift in and out of sleep but the brief flashbacks to my middle school days began to spike again. Like a badly written time-warped movie, my memories flashed in and out of view going a million miles a minute when suddenly it halted on a picture of him. I sighed aloud, annoyed that I still remember this day before trying and failing to push the thought from my subconscious.

FLASHBACK

"He was a fucking prick, Eun-ae. There is like no fucking way it would've worked out even if he didn't reject you in front of the entire school." Cassie said to me as I buried my face deeper into my folded arms on my desk.

"Is there something wrong with me?" I cried harder, my tears spilling from my glasses and into a wet puddle on the solid wood surface.

"Rosaria, Stop!" Cassie yelled, knowing the call of my birth name would cause me to look up and scowl at her. "You are the most beautiful person I know. Inside and out. Kim- Taefucker can't see that then you're better off. So what if your families are close, doesn't mean he can treat you like shit. I mean you spent sixty dollars on the cake and card you bought him and he threw it in your face." She said, causing me to look over at what was left of the small chocolate cake with strawberries on top. A stray piece of chocolate fell from my dark curls and onto the maroon uniform skirt before rolling my eyes and turning to place my head back on the desk.

The emptiness of the classroom echoed as Cassie rubbed her soft hands through my hair, trying to get out the stray pieces of cake that damaged the curls I had just placed in my hair this morning. A warm towel was placed on my face before Cassie spoke again "You should probably clean your face. We have to go back to class, Eunnie," she said solemnly while stroking my face with the towel. "Eunnie you are the closest thing to perfect I have ever met in my life. She whispered.
