Chapter 1

"Amanda, sweetie. It's time to wake up" I heard my maid Rose say from the door.

"I know I'll be downstairs in a minute," I said giving her a small smile.

Rose was probably the only person I had that I could truly trust; she had always been there for me when my parents were travelling and wouldn't give a damn if I was ok.

I got out of bed and began to walk towards the bathroom. I looked around my room with a happy expression.

My room had always been my favorite division of the house. It had the better

Wi-Fi connection, white and hot pink walls that were decorated with pictures of me and my friends, a huge queen sized bed (hot pink of course) in the middle of the room. Next to the bed was a little nightstand. In front of my bed was my desk; on top of it was my iMac and all of my school stuff.

My bathroom was juts a simple whit bathroom with a bathtub in the left corner and a shower in the right corner. In the middle a sink and next to it some shelves that had all my makeup and nail polish.

I took a quick shower, wrapped my towel around me and walked all the way to my closet.

Today was going to be my high school's annual treasure hunt. The point of the game was bonding with your friends, and to make that happen every year the school organized a treasure hunt in the woods that lasted about 5 days. We were put into pair (boy and girl) and we were given a map that led us to the clues. Since we were going to be in the woods for a week I decided to go with a simple outfit. Some high wasted denim shorts, a plain white button up with stuff and some blue converse.

I went into the bathroom to apply my make-up, because even if we were going to the woods I was still Amanda Bakes and I still had a reputation to maintain. I was the school's It girl, blond, long legs and rich. I never knew how I got that title it all happened the summer after I turned 14. People started noticing me and actually talking to me and next thing you know I was ditching my old friends Lucy and Emily and making new ones, popular ones. Every time I thought about them I felt guilt build up in my body and tears began to threaten to fall from my eyes. I never meant to stop being friends with them but it just sort of happened. After them I never had real friends, sure I was surrounded by fake perfect brunet's and blondes that claimed being my best friends but deep down inside I knew that I would never trust any of them with none of my secrets.

I brushed those thoughts away, grabbed my things for the trip (a big hot pink bag and a small school bag that had inside all the things that I would need while walking in the woods), and went downstairs.

"Rosa can you make me some pancakes?" I asked putting my lips and making by best attempt to puppy eyes.

"Way ahead of you" she said smirking and placing a plat with tree perfectly stacked pancakes and a drizzle of organic syrup.

"You're the best," I said with a mouthful.

I picked up my phone from the counter and checked all my social media.

I smiled at that last one. Yes I was an It girl but that didn't mean I couldn't love books right?

"Amanda, the driver is outside" Rose said smiling at me.

"Bye Rose" I said pecking her cheek.

I got up from the table and walked all the way to the door. The hallway that connected the kitchen and the main door was short but the walls looked longer because of all the pictures that were hung on them. In all of those pictures all you could see was a happy family, a perfect family that looked like it didn't have a bother in the world; a caring mother that is always there when her kids need her, a loving father that always gives relationship advice to his son, a brother and sister with beautiful smiles spread across their faces. But all of that was just for the picture, truth was that my parents have been absent for most of my life and have never cared about me or my brother all they cared about was about our grades and things in that way. It has been like that since the beginning but it only got worse after the accident.

"Miss Amanda are you ready to go?" the driver asked pulling me away from my thoughts.

"Yes" I said smirking down picking up my bags and putting them in the back compartment of the car.

I sat in the middle sit as usual and plugged both my earphones in. The song 'We own the night' by the wanted came blasting through my ears and I couldn't help but sing along.

'May our hearts be full like our drinks tonight,
May we sing and dance till we lose our minds
we are only young if we seize the night
tonight we own the night
tonight we own the night'

When the song came to an end I frowned looking through my window and realizing that we had arrived out destination.

"We're here," the driver said opening my door and giving me my bags.

"Thanks Alfred" I said picking up my bags and making my way to the teachers.

"Hey Mandy" a bunch of girls from my chemistry class said smirking at me. I flashed my famous smirk not wanting to be mean.

You see the difference between me and the rest of the girls that are 'popular' is that, I am not a slut and most important of all I am not a bitch.

"So who's your partner?" One of my 'friends' Jessica asked looping her arm with mine.

"Don't know, just got here," I said shrugging my shoulders.

"Let's go see, hope were together," she said enthusiastically

"Me too" I lied

We got to the list and my jaw dropped.

Partners:

Amanda Bakes- James Patterson

What? James? I can't believe this. I was pared with the only guy in school that spent his whole time stuck to his phone and had no friends?

James was that guy that sat alone at lunch with his head on his phone or his camera. He was great at photography and was probably one of the only subjects that he wasn't failing.
