I tried to ignore the sound of gunshots behind me. I could feel the tears pricking at the corner of my eyes and then filling my vision with blur. I knew what was happening. And I knew how this was going to end. He told me not to look, he told me to stay strong, he told me to be brave, and that I was safe. But he wasn't. I could feel my heart breaking, and being torn from my chest little bit by little bit. Suddenly my knees felt weak. And then I heard an ear splitting scream, I knew it was him. And that's when I let the tears fall freely, soaking the cement below my feet. Why couldn't it be me? Not him.
I guess I should tell you how everything turned to this... My name is Dan. And well... This is my story.
