[ strange feelings ]

"Yes. That's it baby, you did it.", it was a sunny and beautiful afternoon and the two young women along with their mother went for shopping, their father out on a business trip to Dehradun for the day. Zoya and Roshnaq were looking for some good gifts for her in-laws while Noor was busy helping the baby learn to walk all around the big store. The kid was tightly holding her index fingers as she happily took slow steps keeping her aunt behind her.

"Appi look, Diya is now walking like a big girl. Hai na baby? Who is our big girl? Aren't you a big girl?", she cooed hearing her soft giggling replies, and Zoya smiled seeing her sister and daughter bonding much more nowadays. Rare were the occasions for the both to mingle. Though Diya was fine with them whenever they came to meet her, she would start looking for people she felt more comfortable with. Speaking of which, Arjun and Diya had a very close bonding since the moment she had started recognizing people other than her parents. He loved spending his time at home joining her in the playroom and her Aj—ju or Cha was her playtime friend. As a mother, she felt glad her parents and sister joined the list of her little daughter's closed ones.

"You know what? Let's get us some jalebi, for us all. Chale baby?", she squealed happy to walk outside.

"Noor, careful huh!", Zoya stole glances at her daughter as she noticed the little crowd in the roads at this particular time. "Don't worry appi, I will take care. I am taking the push chair.", as they walked away, Zoya went back to their mother who was looking through the antique pieces.

Finishing with that store, they walked through the Mall Road and stopped at a clothes shop where warm clothes for babies were exposed. They adored the tiny hats, gloves and thought to get something for the little one.

"Ammi, how is this one?", Zoya held a pale pink winter beanie made of wool, that had a soft little pom pom on the top of it. It would not be of any use once back to Mumbai, but they couldn't help but stay awe at the little things. "It will suit the little scarf you sewed her, hai na?"

"What about these matching mufles as well then Zoya?", Roshnaq felt all excited as she missed shopping for her little girls. She had already filled one bag full of clothes and accessories for Diya, Zoya being relieved she was not going back home alone with all the gifts.

"By the way, ask Noor where she is gone. It has been almost a half an hour.", as her mother said so, she realized the time moving fast and immediately dialled Noor. Unfortunately, the call was soon cut off, making her worried. "Why is she not answering?"

They tried again but even the third call was unanswered. They got tensed when Zoya's phone rang to their relief. "Noor, where are you both? Why were you not answering my calls? Do you know how we get tensed?"

"Appi appi... calm down. I am really really sorry. We just stopped by a toy shop and Diya was confusing me what to buy her. And maybe the range was not strong enough here around. We are on our way back.", she took a breath of relief and explained her mother about their whereabouts. They waited by the antique shop when Noor joined them pushing the baby chair, the little one savouring a morsel of jalebi in her mouth, her new plush toy laid on her. "Sorry ammi, sorry appi. Let's go home soon. We got you lots of stuff."

They nodded smiling and they were about to cross the road when a fast-driven car was about to hit them. Noor sensed it and pulled the push chair back far from the road, shouting at the two women to step back, as Zoya gasped shocked. Her baby was about to get crashed in front of her eyes, she just felt the world stopping in a split of seconds.
