I held out my hand, tears on the verge of dropping. He slipped the ring onto my finger, looking up into my eyes. I stared back into his, noticing how beautifully blue they were. We stood up and I could taste the saltiness of his lips. He tasted wonderful, and I couldn’t get enough. He pulled me closer and-
I opened my eyes. A popcorn ceiling had replaced his ocean-blue eyes and instead of feeling the rough fabric of his coat, all I could feel was my old soft blanket. Damn it. It was just a dream, all too good to be true. I sat up on my bed, remembering fragments of the dream.
We’ve been typing to each other for two days now, getting to know each other better. I was in love. And we were only three miles away from each other!
I got up and headed over to my desk. I flipped open my laptop, eager to check my inbox. Two new messages from Logan! I instantly recovered from the disappointment and clicked on the icon.
Logan Miles – Goodnight! Talk to you tomorrow?
Katherine Lounge- Goodnight and of course!
(Seen Sat at 10:43 PM)
9:32 AM Logan Miles – Good morning Katherine!
Logan Miles – I just wanted to ask you if you are free today.
If…if I was free? Was he asking me on a date? My first date in a year? My eyes widened and I just sat there for a whole minute, wondering if I was still dreaming. I looked back at my screen and began typing a reply.
Katherine Lounge- Good morning! Yes, I’m free today.
I sat back in my chair, waiting for a reply. Then I remembered my plans with Megan. I took one last look at my screen and walked out into the kitchen. Megan was already up and was watching TV with a bowl of cereal. She was usually up at this time and fully dressed. I headed over to the fridge and got out the milk to make myself a bowl of cereal. “Good morning,” I said.
She looked up from the news and said, “Oh, good morning Kat.” The sun was shining brightly outside, no sign of the storm from yesterday.
I went back to my room, breakfast in hand. There was a reply.
Logan Miles – Oh good, do you want to meet up at Darya’s today? I’m looking forward to seeing you.
I was no longer hungry. I was already swelling with happiness.
Setting down the bowl, I got up and went over to Megan who was still watching the recap of The Walking Dead. “Hey, Megan, I don’t think I’ll be able to go shopping with you today. Logan just asked me if I wanted to go hang out with him at Darya’s.”
A look of surprise was on her face when she said, “Oh, well, it’s fine. I hope you two have fun.” She smiled.
“Thanks, I hope we do too. I can’t wait to meet him.”
“You’ll need a dress.”
“Can you help me find something to wear?”
“Uh, yeah I’ll help. You have the worst taste in fashion.”
“Gee, thanks.”
Leaving her to finish the recap, I typed,
Katherine Lounge – I’m looking forward to meeting you too! What time?
I got an immediate reply.
Logan Miles – How about 1:30?
It was 10:19.
Katherine Lounge – Sounds good.
Logan Miles – Can’t wait! Sorry, I have to go. See you later!
Katherine Lounge – Bye, see you soon
I twirled in my chair, dizzy with happiness. It was only 3 hours away! My first date in a year, with possibly the most nice-looking guy I’ve ever been out with. Butterflies were already in my stomach. So many things could go wrong. What if he thinks I’m ugly? Am I too fat? Is my hair too short? I checked myself in the mirror, my hair and the rest of my modest body.
Megan came bursting into my room with her arms full with outfits and dresses. “Open the shades will you? It’s too dark in here,” Megan said while spreading her clothes onto the bed. The room was suddenly filled with the warm glow of the sun, causing me to wince. “Woah.” My closet was wide open and I could already see the difference. “It’s so…well, colorful. Too bright for my taste,” I observed. My closet was filled with dark blues, blacks, and really just all dark colors.
“Oh, come on. I’ve told you this so many times: YOU LOOK AMAZING IN YELLOW. And lime green.” I rolled my eyes.
“They’re my least favorite colors. And-oh my god-those are way too... revealing.”
“Not that you have anything to revea-“
“Shut up.”
“It’s not about what you think, it’s about what everyone else thinks. You’ll look fabulous in these, trust me.”
I gave her one last scowl before I grabbed the first outfit off the pile. A blue tank top with insanely short shorts. “Dude. The tank top I’m okay with, but how can you wear this in public?”
She rolled her eyes this time, snatching the outfit out of my hands.

I ended up choosing the lime green, sleeveless chiffon dress that Megan bought online. “Perfect,” Megan said, looking at the mirror as I moved around examining the dress.
She did my hair, curling it and spraying weird smelling spray onto it. I tried to touch my hair but Megan slapped my hand away. It was currently 12:45. Only 45 minutes away. I couldn’t stop shaking. I usually get jittery when I’m nervous or excited.
“There. You look amazing!” Megan exclaimed, admiring her work. “God I’m awesome.”
“I-I think we might’ve overdone it. Don’t you think that this is a bit too much for just coffee?”
“C’mon dude! He’s gonna be blown away! Don’t you want that?”
I smiled, my confidence boosting. Based off of his bio, I learned that he had an interest in painting and he loved to cook. And I almost fainted when I found out that he was actually British.
“I should probably go now. I’ll get there early and get us a table.”
“Make me proud.”
