I had never expected to go to any sort of frat party. Especially not one help by the most popular students on campus. If I had known how this evening was going to go, I would've stayed home and kept to myself. The moment I walked into the room I felt overwhelmed with the smell of alcohol and sweat. It was a sea of horny teens and regrets. I slowly pushed my way through the crowd, the music being so loud that I felt as if it was going to make my ears start bleeding. I can't believe I actually came to this hell hole. I wish I could allow myself to have fun, but at this moment it seems physically impossible. I finally found a good spot against a wall in a narrow hallway, a couple exchanging saliva next to me; (disgusting) and a few people chatting. The booming music and sweat couldn't reach me here.
I leaned my head against the wall, letting my eyes squeeze shut as I tried to imagine myself somewhere else; ANYWHERE else. This felt like one of those shitty teen movies you'd watch for nostalgia when you are like fifty. Except this is real. This god awful party is real and I am apart of it. The only thing that is keeping me from being like them is the line between partiers and wallflowers. Wallflowers being the ones who don't make out or try to mingle. Partiers being the drunkies who make out with almost EVERYONE and can somehow talk to strangers like it's nothing. Sometimes I can't help but wish I was one of them; Then again,I can't fathom the idea of being a partier.
I soon reopened my eyes and watched as people began to fill up the hallway more. Drunk laughter and talking began to fill my ears. Conversations I never wanted to hear beginning to become engraved in my mind as I visualized each sick word I heard. Never have I heard boys talk such vile things about women in my life. I was about to slip out of this little area when I heard the sound of skates along the wooden floor. A few people cheered and I looked at them confused only to look back at the doorway and see a boy who had pale blue hair with rose gold skates come through. A big grin on his face and a red cup in hand. He looked at me and for a second our eyes locked, his were a ocean blue, somehow much more blue than the ocean though. A color i'd never forget as he broke the eye contact and skated past.
I turned to the person who cheered, it being quite obvious that they were drunk.
"Who was that?" I questioned, hoping to get an at least decent answer.
He laughed, wiped his lips with the back of his hand before replying; "Kade Lakes"
So much for information on him. I didn't dare to dig any farther for information from this random person. I decided to consult someone else. I had heard one of my friend's would be here, so I went to find them. I reentered the crowded area full of shrieks of louder and make out sessions. Trying to pass others with ease and not cause any harm. As I made my way through the sea of people I finally found my best friend. Her usually messy hair put in two braids. Her fiery red hair could be seen from across a room.
"Shelly." I whispered into her ear.
I watched as she spun around and cocked an eyebrow up, only to lower it and smile "Alex!"
"Yeah yeah, you didn't expect me to be here. Can we talk outside?" I looked at her as if it was a must that I know who Kade Lakes is.
I watched as she puckered her lips which were caked with a dark scarlet lipstick. She was hesitant at first, but nodded as she took my hand and intertwined our fingers. She led me in silence through the crowd of people before we reached the outside world. The music being slightly quieter, but somehow still booming.
Shelly let go of my hand and looked me in the eyes. Her make up was too much, I wanted to tell her she was prettier without it. She would throw a fit though.
"Is everything okay?"
"Do you know who Kade Lakes is?"
"What?"
I made sure to keep complete eye contact with her as I asked again but in a more serious tone.
"Do you know anything about Kade Lakes?!"
She stared at me, obviously perplexed at first as she took a second to process it before speaking once more.
"Blue haired skater boy?" She raised an eyebrow, hoping she was right.
I nodded quickly "Ocean blue eyes too"
"Oh my god"
"What??"
She smiled slyly and giggled before exclaiming "he's Mr. Popular here at Western Washington. I'm surprised you haven't heard of him. I can understand why you are interested in him though."
I blushed, what does that mean?! I huffed as I was about to speak up only to be intercepted by her.
"I mean friend wise of course. Since your hetero ass doesn't like boys even though you look GAY." She exclaimed and playfully shoved me back, almost knocking me down the steps.
I regained my balance and brushed off my pale blue shirt slightly before shaking my head "I'm not sure what your talking about."
I haven't told her I'm gay. I have a girlfriend. Who doesn't know I'm gay. Quite funny isn't it? Not really. Did I mention I'm gay?
"Oh please, if you became his friend you'd be one of the most loved students at this school."
She puckered her lips for a second, I stifled back a laugh because she looked like a fish when she did it. A pretty fish though.
"And by loved. I mean loved by the rebellious kids."
"I know."
She shrugged her shoulders before adding, her eyes cutting back to the entrance to the party "Is that all you wanted to know?"
I just nodded and let her head back inside. Even though she barely answered what I wanted to hear. I just let it go though. It didn't matter that much right? I mean, it did, to me it did. Kade Lakes would remain a mystery for me to solve another time.
