"This is your idea of fun?" Minho didn't even try to hide his disgust as they approached a playground. He grimaced at the sight of the chipping paint and rusted benches as he watched Jisung run toward the playground. Minho reluctantly followed after him.
Jisung looked like an ecstatic child as he sprinted toward the swings, leaping onto one of them excitedly. "Push me, Minho!" Jisung called out as he kicked his legs, tossing up a cloud of dust. Rolling his eyes, Minho approached the swings and pushed Jisung, all the while imagining the younger boy pleading the same sentence with one more word added in. In his head, he heard Jisung begging push into me, Minho, as the boy in question loudly laughed and squealed like a little kid. Minho couldn't help but smile slightly, forcing himself back to the present. Though he'd adamantly deny it, he had a bit of a soft spot for the younger.
"Jisung, you never seem to stop acting like a baby," he deadpanned.
"Your baby."
Minho scoffed and stopped pushing Jisung, instead taking a seat on the swing next to him. "You're not my baby, Ji. Remember our agreement? Casual sex partners with no feelings involved. No feelings ever."
Jisung nodded and laughed weakly. "I'm tired of swinging," he said, "Let's do something else. Oh! We could play tag. You're it!" He took off running and let his smile fall as he flew across the field near the playground with Minho hot on his heels. He zigzagged left and right, narrowly dodging Minho's attempts to tag him – at least, until the boy caught him off guard by grabbing his wrist and pulling him close. He kissed jisung quickly before leaning in to whisper in his ear.
"You're it." And then he was sprinting away, lightning-fast to avoid being tagged again. Not that he needed the speed; Jisung was frozen in shock for a moment before he regained his bearings and managed to resume their game. Once he finally got it together, he continued chasing Minho. They both laughed and shouted at each other as they ran around under the hot sun. Jisung dove at Minho, just barely missing him. He rolled across the grass and lay down sprawled out to catch his breath. Minho decided to lie down next to the younger boy and keep him company. They didn't say a word for a few minutes, just enjoyed the comfortable silence.
"How about a truce?" Minho proposed, "Neither of us won or lost. I don't want to run."
"Hmm... I'll accept your truce," Jisung sang, "in just a minute." He flung his right hand out to hit Minho in the chest. "You're it, and now we declare our truce. Good game, Minho." Before the older boy had a chance to respond, Jisung was already back on his feet making his way toward the playground again.
He approached the structure and looked up at it, smiling brightly as he recalled all the memories this place held. With one quick jump, Jisung grabbed the bars above his head and began to move across them.
"How the hell do you do that?" Minho shouted.
Jisung stopped. "You don't know how to do monkey bars?" Minho shook his head, and immediately the younger dropped to the ground. "Come here, I'll teach you.""Teach me?" Minho asked, "How are—"
He yelped as Jisung grabbed him by his waist and lifted him. "Grab the bar above your head," Jisung instructed. "Okay, now swing your body back a little bit, and then when you swing forward again move your left hand to this next bar." He patted the boy's hand and the bar in front of him as he talked about them. Minho did as he was told. He was a bit distracted by the hand still resting on the small of his back and the boy who was watching him look stupid, but he was determined to do it right. He had to prove a point. I have to be good at this, Minho told himself, We're rivals; I have to show him up.
Too engrossed in his own thoughts, Minho missed the next bar. His fingers grazed the cool metal but never stayed as he slipped. Fortunately, Jisung was beneath him and caught him before he could hit the ground.
That's when they heard a voice.
"Is that Minho and Jisung?"
"Shit," they said in unison.
