I could hear the rain hitting the roof as I put on my last undershirt. I had four on today, I was feeling more dysphoric than normal. I finished getting dressed and went down for breakfast.

"Madeline, sweetheart you wore that jacket yesterday".
"I know." I replied as I sat down fitting a whole piece of toast in my mouth.I did not care that I was wearing it again I liked it.
"Maddie why do you push your beautiful long hair up in that hat?" She took my hat off and sat it next to me as my curly red hair fell to my shoulders.
" I want it cut short mom, you know this.".
"Honey we have talked about this, you you are not cutting your hair short, you have beautiful hair you should enjoy it!"
I looked at the clock. 7:15 . "I have to go." I picked up my hat and put it back on, I grabbed my backpack and left. I hated my hair but my mom would not let me cut it. My mom never understood me.
I sat in the heat waiting for my bus. It was early September and In the eighties that morning. I saw the big yellow bus turn down the street. as I started to get up I felt two strong hands on my back and soon I was falling. "Dyke" I heard from behind me. It was Harper Nelson and his girlfriend rowen Williams. I got up dusting the dirt of my jeans. I was used to harper by now he did stuff like this to me constantly. I got on the bus and looked for and empty seat. I found one quickly as my bus stop was the first one. I closed my eyes and listened to music. A few minutes later I feel a tap on my shoulder. I open my eyes to see a blue haired boy standing at my seat. "Can I sit here?" He said in a shy low voice. "Yeah go ahead". I had never seen him before, soon I figured out why.
"Hey I'm Clarke, what's your name?"
"I'm ma-, I'm grey my names grey."
"Well nice to meet you grey, I'm new here, first day." Grey was the name I had picked for myself, I hated being called madeline. We had a conversation about normal things like where my locker was and if I liked the school. Soon we arrived at school and we parted ways.
