Why?

The walk home was literally painful. I winch at every step I take, tears falling. The full moon was hanging over me and the muggy early September air didn't make it any better.

I turn down a shortcut when I see headlights and a car halts beside me. I jump at the screeching sound, covering an ear while the other held onto my weapon. I recognize the car almost immediately and Lani steps out.

"Mila, what the fuck?!" She exclaims as she circled the car and got to me. She looks at my appearance then back at my face, noticing my puffy cheeks and wet eyes.

"Baby Girl was worried! How the fuck do you just- wait, are you okay?" She softens her tone once she sees my facial expression. I bet my eyes were red and my cheeks were puffy. She tilts my head up, examining my face.

"What happened to your nose?" I bow my head slightly, holding onto my stomach. She looks down then her eyes widen.

She points at the red running down my legs and onto my pink laced socks. I look down with her and we both look back up. She shakes her head, "No...no, please, no...o-our baby..."

New tears form, and I honestly feel so sick from crying for the past hour.

Kehlani punches the side of the car hard, "Fuck!!" She does this a few more times before sinking down onto the curb, crying. I sit beside her, wrapping my arm around her.

I lay my head on her exposed shoulder, both of us sniffling. "Why? Why again?" I lift my head, knitting my eyebrows together, "A-Again?" She looks over at me, tears staining her porcelain skin.

She shakes her head, sniffing. "Aaliyah isn't our first child. Normani was pregnant earlier in our relationship."

She runs her hand through her messy hair and wipes her nose on the back of her hand. "Her mom ain't care and her dad was dead. Dinah...was clueless," she shakes her head, smiling a little at the thought of young, oblivious Dinah.

I crack a small smile as she continued. "I guess we weren't ready because two months later, we lost it." She shrugs a little and I lie back on her shoulder. "How are we gonna tell Aaliyah?"

She sighs and shakes her head, "Fuck..." I look at the side of her face. She's staring into space, emotion gone from her features.

"Let's go home, get washed, and cuddle. Sounds good?" She nods slowly, still with a blank expression. I stand up and hold my hand out for her to take. She takes my hand and looks up at me.

I swear to gods, her expression almost made my cry again, and I would've if I wasn't cried out.

We get into the car; I take over the wheel since she's so dazed. When we reach the house, I notice all the lights were off. Lani gets out first as I turn off the car.

She's already waiting at the door with her hands in her pocket, staring at the ground. I get the house key and unlock the door, stepping in first. She trails behind me slowly and shuts the door behind her.

I look down at myself once more and bite my bottom lip, "Teddy, I'm gonna go shower, ok? Come up to the room and lie down." She finally looks up at me with a sad expression and nods.

We ascend up the carpeted staircase and into our room. I immediately strip my clothes off and take my hair out of its high ponytail. I grab my towel and enter the bathroom.

I turn the hot water on and step inside. The scorching streams relax me instantly.

Red washes off and swirl with the water under my feet. The bathroom quickly fills with steam as I wash my hair. I sing softly to myself, finally breaking down.
