Erica

I sat outside with Mason and tried to comfort him. He was going out of his mind with worry and wrought with guilt. It was hard to watch him retreat further into himself after we had just finished making and started working towards our future together.

"Mason, I'm okay. We didn't know he was going to do that. None of us knew what he was going to do. Even Alpha Lenox couldn't break that compulsion." I wrapped my arms around his furry neck. He had shifted as soon as we reached Kia's house. I felt his guilt twist the mate bond, almost making me tear up.

For a male wolf, their mate's were their greatest strength and their greatest weakness. And the fact that he couldn't protect me was eating at him. I heard him whine and snap his powerful jaws in the air. He was guilty for pushing me away for so long that when he did finally get closer to me, something threatened me. It didn't help that it was him.

I hope Kiki is giving him hell because when I see him, they wouldn't be able to tell it was his body without a thorough DNA test with whatever little evidence they will find

He seemed to sense my inner resolve, and turned to me to lick my cheek.

"Why get mad and worked up when we can get even." I said with a murderous smile.

Next me, Alpha Nox was regaining his breath. It looked like travelling through that ring of water made him lose his bearings.

"Are you alright Alpha?" I asked tentatively.

The answer was a roar. One that made my knees weak and head bow submissively out of instinct. His scent hit us like a train. Pure dominance. Unfiltered and unrestrained. It made me shiver and it even made Jamie whimper in her unconscious state. My mate bared his neck, completely submitting to the towering male. He shifted in an instant and tore off towards the back of the house. We looked at each other and I nodded for him to go after him. I would stay to look after Jamie.

I checked my friend over, her skin looking like cracked glass a few spots. I took off her leather jacket and saw that it was all over her body. I gasped looking at my friend. but before I could do more, my body started heating up. almost as if someone had somehow turned the heater up too fast.

Oh no! Not now!

I felt my skin prickle as if something made all my body hairs rise. Then I felt it. My bones breaking. My shin broke outwards, my fingers elongated and my back stretching itself out. I doubled over in pain. A sharp cry leaving my lips before it turned into something else.

A howl.

Mason had described it a little to me. Humans bitten by werewolves died from the venom in their saliva. Unless you were mates. Human mates turned. They would become the missing piece that the wolf needs.

I felt the hair on my arms push out, becoming thicker and longer. Like tiny needles piercing me all over my body. I felt my teeth becoming longer, sharper, more lethal as my nose and lips protrude, my jaw elongating. It was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. Yet there was this little light buzzing around in my head. Almost faint but slowly becoming stronger, pushing me to grin and bear it. It was a soul slowly becoming one with mine. Her power was amazing and her bloodlust to punish those who threatened me was too strong.

I looked up to see the moon. It was full and calling to me. I looked back at Jamie. Her presence was calming and almost serene. Those thoughts were what took my mind off the pain. she started whimpering as the heat died down. When she opened her eyes, I was standing there, clothes torn and standing on all fours.

The shift was over.

I was one of them.
