Always on my mind

The day I let you in was the day I got some balls,
The day you let me in was the day I saw past your walls.
The big plans we made were suddenly down the drain,
I frown at the memories as my feet drag through the rain.
You were always on my mind, but I know you never believed me,
I guess that's why you up and left, decided it was best to leave me.

It's been a while since I've heard from you,
With every passing day I wonder if you miss me too.
Some nights when I close my eyes,
I see your smile but it's no surprise.

All I have left now are the memories and the letter you wrote,
You told me how much you loved me and you loved the way I spoke.
I remember one day you texted, my heart nearly ripped out of my skin,
But it was just to say you were doing fine and that you threw our memories in the bin.
I cried and cried for days on end,
You were truly my best friend.
