Three days later, Mal was sitting in her bed and crying as usual. She couldn't get any sleep, unless she cried herself to sleep, and she didn't eat anything. She had so many unread texts and missed calls from her friends that it was so unbelievable. She began to get progressively weaker physically and mentally everyday. She didn't even talk to anyone in the castle that knocked on her door, but instead she told them to go away. She was a complete mess, and she had no way to get up and make her life any better.
Evie was sitting at her dining table thinking about Mal. Evie hadn't gotten any texts back from her, nor any calls and Evie was worried.
Doug saw something was on Evie's mind, so he decided to ask her what was wrong.
"Hey, you look worried. Is everything ok?" Doug asked Evie.
"I'm very worried about Mal. She hasn't answered any of my calls, and she hasn't even sent me any texts. I just feel that after Ben's death, she needs someone to support her," Evie told Doug.
"Why don't you go over to the castle and talk to her? You should also bring strawberries since those are her favorite," Doug suggested.
"Why, that is a good idea. You are the smartest boyfriend ever," Evie complimented Doug.
"Thank you," Doug blushed.
"Oh, you're welcome," Evie said as she kissed him.
Evie put together a container of strawberries, grabbed her purse, and headed over to to the castle.Evie arrived at the castle and walked up to the majestic double doors. She knocked on the doors, and Butler Harold answered.
"Hi, I'm Evie. I'm here to see Mal," Evie told Harold.
"Oh, hello Evie! I remember you; Mal was telling me about you!" Butler Harold said, "I'm not sure if Mal wants any visitors, but you can try and talk to her."
"Thank you so much, I really appreciate it." Evie said to Harold.
Butler Harold escorted Evie to Mal's room. Evie and Harold stood there for a minute before Harold broke the silence.
"Well, I guess I must be going," Harold said, "Good luck."
Butler Harold left and Evie stood in front of the door. After a minute, Evie rushed up to the door and knocked.
"Go away!" Mal screamed.
"Mal, please let me in. It's Evie," Evie told Mal.
There was a moment of silence, but Mal finally opened the door. Evie quickly looked at the famished Mal, but then she entered the room.
Evie scanned Mal's room. Clothes were scattered around the floor and on the bed, tissues were piled on the night stand, the bed was unmade, the pillows were on and off of the bed, and other items were scattered around the room.
Evie took a seat on the ottoman in front of the bed and Mal sat next to her.
"I'm sorry that you have to see me like this, I just haven't been myself lately since..." Mal started to say but started crying.
Evie hugged her and said, "Don't worry. Tell me all that's on your mind. Oh, I also brought strawberries!"
Mal laughed as she was crying and said, "I'm not all that hungry, but thank you!"
"Oh, you're welcome," Evie said, "Wait, Mal when was the last time you ate?"
Mal hesitated and responded, "Three days ago..."
"Mal, you have to pull yourself together somewhat. I know you are having a hard time dealing with Ben's death, but life goes on." Evie said, "Remember I said there was a future ahead of you and you shouldn't ever forget that?"
"Well, yeah..." Mal responded.
"Well, you have to live up to that, Mal." Evie told Mal.
"Well, E, I don't see a very bright future ahead of me," Mal said, getting angry now.
"Why's that?" Evie asked Mal.
"I wasn't going to tell you this for a while, but...Evie...I'm...pregnant..." Mal said shyly and hesitantly.
Evie was speechless. She couldn't believe her best friend was pregnant so young. Also, she couldn't believe Mal would be raising her child alone as a single mother because she always imagined her and Ben raising their kids happily together after they were married.
Evie hugged Mal and said, "Congratulations, even though this is the worst time this could be happening. Do you know what you are going to do?"
"I am going to keep the baby, but I don't know anything after that," Mal responded, "Will you be the godmother? Also, you can't tell anybody. Not even Carlos or Jay."
"Of course I will be the godmother! That would make me overjoyed!" Evie said, "I promise I won't tell anyone. Not even Carlos or Jay."
"Thank you so much, you are the best friend I could ever have," Mal told Evie.
Evie hugged Mal tightly, and then looked around the room again.
"Before I leave, let's clean this room and you're going to have a full re-makeover," Evie said.
"Ok," Mal said with a smile.
She walked out of the room and Evie grabbed cleaning supplies and makeup, satisfied and happily.
