Ann Marie get down here!
Yes, mam? I yell from the top of the stairs not wanting to go downstairs and deal with the same "drunk mom" routine again it's 2 in the morning on a Monday and I have school today and she is just now coming into the house.
Come down these stairs I'm not talking to myself you, YOU ... You, you disgrace of a child!
Yes, mam? I say as I slowly walk down the stairs.
My mom was wearing her favorite short red club dress with her six-inch heels in one hand and a bottle of vodka in the other. Her lipstick was smeared and her mascara stained her face as if she was crying earlier. Her pretty long hair was no longer flat ironed but frizzy and unruly. Even at her worst, my mother is still beautiful even when she is being evil.
She has beautiful cocoa brown skin that practically glows on its own. Her stunning pure white stained teeth adds to the beauty of her smile her eyes glow with optimism but only when she is not drunk it's like the alcohol changes everything about her personality and its hard to see her in such a beautiful light. But I can maybe its because I spend so much time with her or I force myself to see the beauty in her, to help cope with the things she does.
Marie, you know in high school your mom was so so popular I got all the boys I was a cheerleader then I had a baby at 15! And youuuurrrrr dead beat Dad left me 3 months after you were born now look me it's all you. It's all your fault no one loves me anymore because of You. I've dealt with you for 16 years. 16!!!!!
She broke down crying as I stood there saying nothing knowing , well ... hoping she doesn't mean at least half the stuff she says. She started screaming and throwing her shoes at me. Then she threw the bottle of vodka it missed me by a couple of inches hit the wall and broke.
Look at what you m-made me do you ..........
I was still at the bottom of the stairs and curled up into a little ball not crying Just trying to drown her out I don't feel like running or fighting back she will calm down eventually. After some time that felt like forever she calms down and fell asleep on the couch I watched her for a bit before getting up and putting a blanket over her and a bucket beside her. Just in case she wakes up before me. And starts throwing up.
I woke up at 9 a.m to my mom throwing up, I went down the steps and made a detoxifying juice thing to helps with hangovers I found online and I put some coffee on for me. After ma stopped throwing up I helped her up the stairs to the bathroom and drew her a bath. It was like caring for a two-year-old washing her getting her dressed making her drink the smoothie and beg her to eat something finally when all that was done I got her to lay down and fall asleep in her bed the same routine.
I glanced at the clock 1:26 p.m well I guess I'm not going to school today. I looked beside me to find my mom still sleep or should I say passed out. I got up and took a shower and just put on my underwear bra and just my silk red robe. I went down the stairs and started cooking breakfast for me even though it is in the p.m. I finished cooking and heard some movement from upstairs
Annie is that you?
yes, ma! it was nice hearing her call me by my childhood nickname and It was even better knowing she was sober enough to be in her right mind.
I'm I'm sorry for last night I was just, you know I was-
'its okay ma, She always had trouble admitting what she did or admitting she had a problem.
I love you Annie you know that right?
I know ma , I love you too.
I put the food on a plate and we set down and started to eat not really talking to each other.
Next-Day (Tuesday)
I heard the doorbell ring, Annie someone is at the door for you! I was upstairs curling my hair and getting my stuff ready for school. I'll be down in a minute! I put the finishing touches to my hair grabbed my stuff and sprayed myself with my Magic spell Victoria secret perfume. And headed toward the door whoever is there I hope does not need me for long because I was finna be late. Before I got to the door I saw who it was, my boy best Jamal and he was standing beside some boy I didn't know. I stood at the door with the "Whatchu want fool?" look on my face.
My bad, What I doooo ? Jamal said looking confused.
Hearing his new york accent and seeing his facial expressions made me feel a lil bit better.
Nothing im just finna be late I said making my way out the door not paying mind to the boy Jamal had with him. The school was very close but I still end up being late most of the time.
Oh Ight let me walk you to school that is why I'm here Annie.
He flashed a smile at me knowing I only like it when my momma calls me that. Bye ma he yelled at my momma, he always called her ma ever since the first time he met her.
Bye Jamal and bye Annie my mom yelled back,
Bye mommy!
You still call your mom, mommy? The other boy said
Jamal who is this lil boy you brought
he started to laugh Who little? he stepped in front of me blocking my path.
Boy move before you make me extra late. I rolled my eyes and stepped past him. This is my momma friend son Devonte but he goes by D.j , he new so I'm walking him to school. Oh and I brought your work from yesterday, Where were you?
Thanks, Jamal I was just taking care of ma you know, I shot him an " ill tell you later look". I couldn't go into detail like I usually would because of Devonte. Usually, I would pour my heart out to him because I trust him I have known him my whole life and its good having someone to talk to. He really is my best friend.
You good ma? D.j asked
My name isnt ma, My name in Ann Marie don't play wimme.
Got a nickname Ann Marie?
None for you D.j
wow ma why you so pressed???
I rolled my eyes at his comment, He was kinda getting aggy but he was cute.
We finally arrived at school and we made it to our lockers just before the bell ringed. Looks like I'm going to be late on my first day Devonte mumbled.
Shut up nigga you don't really care Jamal blurted out, they both started laughing uncontrollably. Watch your language Jamal and get to class. Ann Marie and Mr. Devionte I need to see you in my office, Mrs.Williams yelled from down the hall
But Mrs.Williams nigga ain't even a cuss word. Go to class Jamal! she yelled walking away without turning around.
D.j whispered in my ear while we were trailing behind her to the office,
She looks good walking away!
You such a creep Devonte I rolled my eyes and speed up to get away from him. Did you say something Devonte miller?
Nope
Mrs.Williams turned around and lifted her eyebrows.
No mam I did not, he smiled then looked at me.
I laughed You are dumbbbbbbbb.
