“Good luck, Colonel,” the taunting voice said as the large gates of the chateau slammed behind her.  She stared forward, her brain not fully comprehending what was happening.  She shook like a leaf and gripped the knife so tight her knuckles must have been white.  Then all at once her instinct kicked in and she began to run faster than she knew possible.

The surrounding jungle raced past her.  “Three days,” the voice said in her head.  “If I find him, he loses.”  She could almost see his taunting face.  She suddenly stopped and fell to the ground and despite what her body told her, she began to cry.  How was this possible?  Less than 72 hours ago she had been saying goodbye to her brother, getting ready for another mission.

Colonel Kendra Booth had joined the military three years ago, following a long line of military in her family.  She had immediately excelled and was put as the head of a specialized and highly classified team.  All experts in their fields.  To Kendra this had all started out as just another mission.  They had all boarded a familiar aircraft as always and everything seemed fine.  That was until they got over the island.  Then there was a storm like none Kendra had ever seen.  The plane had no choice but to go down.  They had crashed into the ground not far from the chateau.  The pilot had died on impact, though now she thought that he had had the best deal of all.

The team made their journey to the chateau easily; simply glad for some sort of civilization, but as soon as they saw General Zaroff, they knew they shouldn’t be.  He seemed like a complete gentleman at first, but they all knew something was wrong.  As the leader of the team, she was invited to dinner with the General.  Even now that she was being hunted, she could scarcely believe what she had been told. He was hunting living human beings.  Sure she had been in fire-fights before, but this, this was something completely different.  This was for pure sport, because he had grown bored hunting animals.

Kendra couldn’t even kill an animal without feeling guilty.  Shooting a living human being, even if it was one trying to kill her, had always stung deep.  Now she was here on this island with her team back within the chateau, being trained so that the general could have better sport.  The General had decided to send Kendra out without any training because she already possessed, as he put it, the wit to be a somewhat more challenging prey.  She stabbed her weapon, a meager hunting knife, into a tree beside her and breathed through clenched teeth.  She would beat this man and she would make sure everyone got off this island and she would make him pay. She wrenched the knife from the tree and stood, and once again began to run through the surrounding jungle, careful to not leave a trail.
