Present Mic's typical excited tone ripped through the stadium. He, who was almost always extremely energetic, seemed even more pumped than usual about the upcoming match, and his tone portrayed this.
"It's the guy who won his last fight by a landslide and literally left half the audience frozen; the Hero Course's Shouto Todoroki! And this kid almost walked out of his first match-up, but made a stunning comeback by showing off some impressive moves; also from the Hero Course, Izuku Midoriya!"
The two boys came out onto the battlefield, facing one another with an unsaid tension. Almost like competing predators, staring each other down, waiting for the other to make a move so they could retaliate.
"Tokoyami, how do you think this match will go?" Iida inquired in a hushed voice, looking to the bird boy.
His face remained stoic as he stared at their classmates on the field, not moving his gaze. "It depends on whether or not Midoriya will be able to get close to him."
"They'll probably start as soon as the word 'go' is said. But how will Midoriya use his self-destructive power to defend against Todoroki's barrages of ice?" Ayami added, to everyone's agreement.
The two were radically different, yet they seemed almost evenly matched. Midoriya could attack with devastating blows up close and destroy anything trapping him while Todoroki was able to push the boy back with his ice attacks.
"Please don't hurt yourself out there, Deku," Ochaco murmured to herself as the fight began. That's what Bakugou calls Midoriya, isn't that the word for useless? Then again, it sounds like Dekiru, which means 'can do,' so perhaps I'm not the only one with a name interpreted multiple ways.
"Go!" Not even a second passed before Todoroki sent a wave of ice outwards, crystals of varying sizes jutting up from the ground in ways so complex that Ayami could feel a twinge of jealousy coming from Gaia.
They nearly reached Midoriya before he braced himself and flicked a finger, sending a powerful burst that instantly shattered the incoming attack, though as a consequence his finger became instantly bruised and broken.
The single flick was so powerful that Todoroki was blown backwards, only remaining in bounds thanks to the icy barrier he made behind himself that caught him. In response, he send the icy myriad again, just for his green-haired opponent to repeat his own counter.
Kirishima's voice carried as he rushed into the class's row of seats. "Oh no! Crap, I'm missing it!"
"Nice job into making it to the second round, Kirishima!" Kaminari exclaimed, congratulating his classmate and friend.
The male redhead flashed a toothy grin, his teeth as sharp as a shark's. "Thanks, man. Looks like I have to take down Bakugou next."
The ash blond gave a blank stare to the one boy that managed to tolerate him. His tone was flat as he muttered his signature, "I'll kill you," though Ayami couldn't help but shudder and look away anyway.
Kirishima seemed entirely unbothered by him. "Yeah sure; in your dreams. But seriously, it's crazy how both you and Todoroki have moves that blast the whole stadium. Must be nice..."
"Plus you don't have to pause between attacks!" Sero added.
"It seems everyone has something about their quirk they can't stand. Kirishima's isn't flashy, Sero and Momo need time for theirs, along with food for the latter, Satou's requires sugar, Midoriya gets terribly hurt with each attack, Ochaco gets nauseous... That makes our struggle with balancing control and dealing with the aftereffects of not being able to properly develop a way to use our power seem a little less daunting," Brizo's purple hue mused with a small smile. "We're not the only work-in-progresses here."
