THE FEMALE ALPHA

Chapter three

The night has been so long since I can't seem to get any sleep. I look outside and a grey hue has already overtaken the darkness. I sit up on my bed and look at my watch and it's 3am!.

My eyes don't want to close up again.
I don't want this nightmares about Dante haunting me.

I miss Dante and the idea of him being held captive is freaking me out. I don't wanna think about what those malicious humans are doing to him. At the thought of him, a tear slips down my face but Im not gonna show any form of weakness. Not now at least. I bite my tongue to stop myself from crying out loud. I need to be strong.

I get up from my bed, throw away the quilt and i ran into the shower, I have no time to waste on anything. I let the warm water fall on my skin. There is no better feeling than this. But all this time, my mind is elsewhere.
I get out of the bathroom and wear my sports bra and panties then go out for a ran.

When I come back to my office, it's already 5am. I mind link my Betta immediately.

"What's new from the trackers. Have they found any links to the kidnappers?" I  ask  Tester.

"The trackers have found out that the people who took Dante are humans who work in a certain organization called Cultrid which basically deals with eliminating werewolves. This organization beliefs that being a wolf is a kind of a cult hence their main idea is to eliminate it.  The trackers also informed me that it is a very big organization that surprisingly does not only have Dante, but many other werewolves from different packs.

They are kept in cells whereby they are tied up by silver chains on their wrists and ankles. So once inside, no wolf can shift and neither can they use their powers.

It was also confirmed that more than a hundred wolves  are held captive whereby they are tortuted and some are injected with a vaccine that forcefully takes away or weakens their wolf.

After the experiments are done, the wolfs are eventually killed."  Tester concludes his voice dropping to a whisper in my head.

I roll my eyes and pull myself up from my seat. I can feel the tension inside me.
I am left speechless. And I can already see that I have failed as alpha.  How could I have missed such a critical thing. How long has this been going on behind my back. Why do they use wolves for their experiments?

I can feel the tears welling up in my eyes. I cannot hide my pain anymore. Those wolfs deserve better than that. My brother Dante needs me too. I cannot let this humans have their way.

"Don't cry, you'll overcome this. After all ain't you the most powerful alpha alive? I am here to help you" my wolf Jewel assures me.

"Thanks buddy, I don't know what could happen if you were forcefully taken away from me." As I say this, more tears keep falling from my eyes and I don't notice someone get in my office.

I feel a soft touch on my shoulder which brings me back to reality.
I don't have to look up because I already Know who it is.
"Xavier, you came. "
I stand up and fall in his embrace still crying.
"You are a strong woman and you will go out there and kill all those filthy humans."
He comforts me and I rationalize eventually. I push away my fears and focus on the job at hand.

I have never shown my weakness to anyone before and I am not about to start that now.
However, I didn't expect Xavier to miss anything. A five hundred year old vampire who has been friends with our pack for ages now, sometimes I feel like he played the role of a father when the alpha was not around. He was both a teacher and mentor to me.
Growing up, I always had him as a role model.  He displays an aura of confidence and I have to say he is an epitome of manly elegance. He's always been my pillar of strength and I am ordinately proud of this vampire.

"I've talked to the council of vampires about what happened to Dante and they are sorry about that. They say that they are happy to help this pack because of the help and support they received from this pack when they had a war against rogue witches. Therefore, they feel indebted and are willing to help."
He gives me a lingering look while he says that emphatically.

"You also need to strategize on different ways other than directly starting a war with those humans. You know it will not end well." Im taken back by what he says. It is quite true.
I cannot just go out and start fighting with them. They'll kill all the captives. I need to send in spies to the Cultrid organization. That will work out well.

I'm so consumed in my thoughts and the only thing I hear is the door closing as Xavier goes out, leaving me to think about his suggestion.  He is such a great help and I can't thank him enough.

I get the office line and call my worrior head Daniel who is there within  minutes.
"I was headed here before you called me. How may I help you alpha." He asks politely with his eyes on the floor in submition.
"Have you heard from the gamma?" I ask him. Gamma Tim has been away from the pack for one month now. Despite being a gamma and having pack duties, I allowed him to go out to make some discoveries on the new cure of wolfsbane. This is what hunters mostly use on wolfs during war and I belief Tim is a gifted young man. With the help of his elder brother who is a human and scientist, they came up with a vaccine which every wolf is injected with and they become resistant to the wolfsbane. The vaccine I have to say, saved our pack during the last war against hunters some years back.

Technically, Tim and Jade share a mother but Jade was born before his mother met up with her mate. Jade's father is a human which explains their predicament.

"Gamma is on his way coming. He is almost at the boders but I will ensure he sees you as soon as he arrives." He says .
"Thank you Tester. Now go and ensure that the boder has tight security.
Inform me immediately if there are any signs of Intruders or anything strange."
With that, he gives curtsey and gets out of my office.
