It was really good to see Brooks again and Joe. Memories flooded my mind as I had pulled in the drive way. My Room hadn't changed either it still had the PBR and dustin lynch posters, quilt still camo with the dark wooden bed frame and the matching desk. It was so different to my place in Texas, Man I love Julie but damn she had obsession with purple.
I put my bag on my bed to unpack later I only had one thing on my mind. I wanted to go for a ride. It had been days. I pulled out a pair of Miss Me jeans and my black Stetson and ran back out to the barn where I saw Brooks before. I opened the big door and walked in. I looked for Mocca and her stable but it was empty.
"Joe had to sell her, we went through a rough patch and we needed money," said a voice behind me. I turned around and saw Brooks standing there in all his sweaty glory.
To say the lease I got over him, it took a while but I did.
"Oh ok," I kept walking through the halls and saw Denny's stall. What a sight for sore eyes he was. He had filled out a bit more and looked amassing.
I grabbed his halter and took him over to the tack bay.
"You wanna come for a ride Brooks?"I asked being polite.
"Nah sorry Miss Audrey I have work to do, your uncle has me working to the bone," he replied with a laugh rubbing his hand on the back of his neck.
For the first time I looked at him, really looked at him. He looked like a man and dwarfed the boy that I remember at 6ft4. The sleeves of his stockyard shirt were a little tight over his biceps.
"Ok then, Ill see you round," I picked up my old stock saddle from last time I was here and the chest plait and saddled up.
I mounted but I felt alien in the stock saddle, when I had spent the last 4 years in a western saddle. I walked over to the arena and started doing circle work. Denny went a little bit rusty, but he soon snaped back and went almost perfect.
I found out someone and continued training him after I left suddenly, because he could neck rain. I looked over at the far fence to something that had caught my eye about 5 minuets before, Barrels. I set them up and stood at a make shift line I made in the arena sand. I closed my eyes and composed my self. I opened me eyes and spurred denny into the course. We flew through the course at breakneck speed. I lived for this. We finished in a sliding stop in the soft sand.
"You still got it girly," said Joe with a smirk.
"Well I have won with arena records over in the states," I said pointing to my belt buckle which red Audrey Ison Barrel racer Champion Cheyenne Rodeo, with the year and an engraving of a horse and rider mid turn around a barrel.
"Very nice," he said with a thumbs up, "though one of those turns were a bit wide might wanna work on that."
I nodded and kept going.
It felt so good to be back home. I jumped off after another half hour and headed inside. I went up to my room and started to unpack my things. All my prize buckles sat on top of my chest of draws along with all my bling belts e.c.t. I was about half way through when Brooks came in.
"Hello, what can I do you for?" I asked as he sat down on my bed.
"Ah not much, just to catch up for a bit," he said munching on an apple he had bought with him.
"Uh ok, you start and I'll keep unpacking," I said with a nod.
"Ah um... ok how America? And I bet school was a little different, you just graduated yeah?"
"Yep I graduated three days ago. America was amazing a good experience, though I'm glad to be home At school I was the nerdy girl with glasses, I never got a second glace. I joined the school Rodeo team and come rodeo weekend and I was all boots jeans kicking everything up another notch, I was two completely different people,"I laughed thinking back to freshman year, " Shayne and Julie were great though they could never replace my real parents though they were more like and Aunt or Uncle."
I put one of my shirts in the draw and looked up to him, he seemed deep in thought about something, "So what about you? the big 19 this year, what are you doing with your self?"
He streched his arm in the air before starting, "Well I left school in year 10 so 3 years ago and came straight to here for work, my family moved away last year and so I just stay here with Joe," He said with a nod, he went into a deep thought trance again before he spoke, "Had any boyfriends?"
I stayed silent for a while before speaking, "Yes I have had a few, nothing to serious. What about you? any girlfriends?"I asked wiggling my eye brows.
And the next work that come out of Brooks' mouth gave me a shock and a half, "Nope, none."
