1942 New YorkIt was raining, again. I flipped up the collar on my trench and pulled my fedora down to shield my eyes. I began walking towards the crime scene cursing my curious nature. Silently, I was wishing I was home in my favorite chair reading the paper with a cold brew in hand. I hated the rain, but it wouldn't stop me from going out. Not when the rush of another mystery needed to be solved. The compulsion to Investigate circumstances around me courses through my veins. It's who I am. A need deeply embedded in my DNA. From my great, great grandfather down to my own father, there wasn't a Jones man who hadn't followed the urge to examine, to explore and question. So here I was, at one in the morning on another cold rainy night in Chinatown.
Another body had been found. It wouldn't be the first and certainly not the last but there was something different about this one. This one had been left for a specific purpose. She had been left for me. A calling card so to speak. It was a message. They were telling me to stay away. Only I wasn't one to head warnings. In fact, I lived for them. It meant I was on to something. What exactly, I wasn't certain but I was close, and someone was getting nervous.
