(Niall’s P.O.V)

Mara had left. What had I done? She was the best thing that had ever happened to me. But what she said about leaving me…why would she say that? I guess I knew why. She was going to stay young forever, why would she hang around with me when I’m old? I should’ve accepted it and let her stay so I could have as much time with her as I could. Now I’ll probably never see her again. Why would she want to come back after what I said. I didn’t mean any of it. I hated what I said. Why did I have to be so stupid sometimes. After everything I’d been through to get her back and I just let her slip through my hands like sand. I wondered weather to look for her. Would I find her? I just wanted to apologise to her, tell her how sorry I am and how much I love her. I couldn’t lose her. Not now.

A day passed and Mara hadn’t returned. I missed her so much. Maybe it was time I went out looking for her. If I didn’t I might not ever see her again. But she might not want me, not after the things I said. She said she’d leave me when I got old. Maybe I had to make the most of what time I had with her until she didn’t want me anymore. I was lost in thought when my phone rang.

"Hello?" I said answering it.

"Hey Niall, it’s Harry. I was just wondering how you were doing?" Harry asked me.

"Not bad I suppose." I lied.

"How’s Mara?" I winced when he said her name.

"Um, she’s…" I felt a tear run down my cheek.

"Are you ok? It sounds like you’re crying." Harry said as more tears fell from my eyes.

"She’s gone." I said.

"What do you mean?" he questioned.

"She left me." I said through my sobs.

"What?! Why?" he asked.

"I…I said some things. She…she said…oh it doesn’t matter! She’s gone and I…I don’t think she’s coming back to me." I tried to calm myself down. Crying wasn’t going to solve anything.

"Niall, I’m sure she will come back. She loves you. She wouldn’t just leave you after one little fight." Harry said causing me to realise something. I stopped crying.

"Harry, I’ve got to go." I said hanging up. I grabbed my jacket and headed out. I had to find Mara.

I had no idea where Mara went. I had figured out that she was hiding something from me. She’d gave me the same look she gave me the first time she left me, before I knew she was a ghost. There was something in her eyes that told me she was lying. The problem was, I didn’t know where she could have gone. She couldn’t have gone home so where…it hit me. Her grave. It was important to her. She’d be there.

Ten minutes later, I arrived at the graveyard. It didn’t take long for me to spot Mara standing in front of her grave. I slowly walked over to her.

"Mara?" I called out to her. She turned around and surprise covered her face.

"What are you doing her Niall?" she asked me as bluntly as she could.

"Don’t pretend you’re mad at me or don’t care because I know something’s wrong and you’re trying to hide it from me. Please just tell me what’s going on." I begged her.

"It doesn’t matter. I’m sorry." She said, her eyes full of regret. I pulled her into my arms and held her tight.

"It’s ok. I’m sorry too. Those things I said, they were…"

"I don’t care what you said, I know you didn’t mean it. And the truth is…I would never leave you." She said wrapping her arms around me. I smiled and pulled away from her slightly so I could kiss her but she suddenly moved away and looked behind me as if there was something there. I turned to look too, but there was nothing there.
