You are currently standing outside one of the many clubs that the downtown part of your city housed. Taking slow drags from your cigarette and scrolling through social medias. It was about 1:45 am and the streets were full of life and the smell of booze, perfumes, and other drugs filled the air. Your friends were inside celebrating god knows what like they do every weekend, usually you would pass on going but their begging became insufferable so you caved in.Sighing and bending down to burn your cigarette into the cement you hear the rusty front door open and the sound of music and commotion inside suddenly pours out. In a mere 3 seconds of the door being opened a body get tossed out harshly by the bouncers beefy and veiny arms. The figure crashes into the sidewalk head first.
"Jesus fucking christ!!" You yell and run over to the slumped person almost tripping yourself.
"Are you alright?!" You kneel down and begin to shake the person lightly, they appear to be a man.
He groans and slowly lifts his head, his grey half lidded eyes meet yours. He's fucking plastered.
"Oh thank god, it seemed like you weren't getting up there for a mome-"
Blood runs down into his brow from his forehead as you speak.
"Oh fuck. Ok. Ok." You reach down into your bag small crossbody bag and pull out a compact emergency kit that you impulsively picked up at a drug store about a month back. His eyes lazily follow your movements while you tear open the antiseptic wipe.
He winces at your touch and instinctually grabs your wrist.
"I know it stings but it would suck if this got infected, you know you did fall face first into dirty cement right?"
He looks at the ground clearly thinking it over and eventually loosens his grip. You proceed to clean and bandage his wound. He doesn't say thank you but you don't care.
"Do you have a ride or friends with you?" You question while checking the time on your phone "it's getting pretty late and I want to go home"
He doesn't say anything.
"Hey dude I know you fucked up but I need you to work with me here" his eyes quickly dart to yours. You stare back at each other for what seems like an eternity. His eyes hold a mixture of exhuastion, sadness, and longing. He quickly glances away though and decides to speak.
"I dont know where my fucking friends are and I don't have a fucking ride," his voice is deep and scratchy, it's almost as if he hasn't spoken a single word in 10 years. His eyes widden and he furiously starts patting his pant and coat pockets, "I think I lost my phone as well.. you've got to be shitting me" He mumbles that last part to himself.
He doesn't seem to be that wasted after all..
"Oookay, do you want me to call you an uber or something?" You ask. You consider offering a him ride but remember this man is a total stranger who seems to have a bit of a bad attitude.
"No I don't need you to buy me a ride, I don't know who you are. I don't want to owe anything to a stranger" he replies refusing to make eye contact. "Thanks for your help, now leave me alone." Your brows furrow and you stay silent for a moment thinking over what to do and say while he looks at the cars passing by.
"Tell you what, I'm gonna get you an uber and then we will never talk or see each other again, this will be my good deed for the year anyways" you half joke to lighten the mood.
Before he has time to protest you already launch the app and shove your phone in his face forcing him to enter the address of wherever he wants to go. He looks extremely displeased and somewhat ashamed. Normally you would call someone out for that but he seems to be going through something right now. His eyes and face say it all.
