lightningstar's final life

Three she-cats padded through the lush undergrowth of forestclan territory, hunting fresh kill.

Suddenly, a mouse ran through the golden she-cats's paws, which she easily managed to kill.

"Eeveeheart." she called out to the other two cats. "Yes?"  Eeveeheart replied.  "I....I'm feeling I may lose my final life here." Lightningstar whispered quietly. "Don't talk like that." She replied. Lightningstar sighed, and went farther ahead to try to catch a sparrow. Eeveeheart meanwhile, silently stalked a squirrel, jumping on it and killing it with a bite.  Next to her, the 2nd clan leader, Willowstar, walked up to her with a pigeon in her jaws. "Great." Eeveeheart told her. "That should be enough for today. Let's go get lightningstar."

Lightningstar was digging up her mouse, when the other two cats found her. "We should get back to camp." Willowstar told her. "Agreed." She said, grabbing her mouse. Suddenly, a bone chilling sound came from behind the cats. Lightningstar turned around, screaming. Then, the other two saw it and stood in shock. A rattlesnake. Lightningstar dropped her mouse, telling the other two to stay back. Unsceathing her claws, she leaped at the snake, sinking her claws into its tail. But the snake lashed out, sinking it's fangs into lightningstar's neck. Lightningstar howled in surprise, jumping back and clawing at the snake. Poison seared through her, and you couldn't see it, but it was flowing through her bloodstream, slowly killing her.

"Lightningstar!" Eeveeheart yowled,  lashing out at the snake. The snake still clung on to her neck, making more and more poison seep through. Willowstar came and joined eeveeheart, and together they managed to kill the snake, pulling it off lightningstar. Lightningstar lay on the dirt, blood trickling from her wound. "Lightningstar...no....please..." eeveeheart sobbed. Willowstar, still slashing angrily at the snake, told the other two she was getting Lunafur, the medecine cat. While she bolted off,eeveeheart lay next to lightningstar's body; it was trembling....She was losing her last life. Eeveeheart sobbed, hoping Lunafur would get there in time. "Lightningstar...don't worry. Lunafur's on her way." She whispered gently to her. "It...it doesn't matter now.....I will walk with you and guide you now....from starclan." She reassured eeveeheart. Lunafur came with Willowstar a few minutes later, but it was too late. Lightningstar was dead.

Later in the night, all cats mourned the death of their leader. "You were not meant to die so soon!" Eeveeheart said, pushing into her fur. "We all will miss you so much."

Then,the star mark on lightningstar fell on to eeveeheart, signalling she was now clan leader.  "Its time to bury her." Willowstar said sadly. Eeveestar grabbed lightningstar's scruff, hauling her onto Willowstar's body.

The next day, after Eeveestar had received her nine lives, she walked over to lightningstar's grave, loss flooding her on the inside.  She looked up into the sky, hoping her friend had made it to starclan. "Don't worry." She whispered. "I promise to keep your legacy alive.....lightningstar."
