"Jiminie... do you remember, I always took you on a picnic in the park?"
"Yes, Harabeoji. You made an egg sandwich for me. Then, we lay out the mat and enjoy the natural scenery. Ahhhh, I missed that moment." Jimin's face lit up with happiness as he recalled those weekends with his grandfather.
Jimin lost his parents when he was 8 years old, leaving his grandfather as his only source of comfort and love. To ease the sadness, every weekend his grandfather would take him for walks, filling their days with shared activities. They had picnics in the park, on the beach, and even went fishing. But it was the picnics in the park that Jimin cherished the most. He loved watching the clouds, admiring the flowers, and taking in the vibrant greenery.
"Harabeoji, is the park here the same as in Busan?" Jimin asked softly, his head resting on his grandfather's thigh. His grandfather's hand gently stroked Jimin's soft hair, a comforting gesture that had remained unchanged through the years.
"Not quite the same, Jiminie," his grandfather replied. "There aren't many flowers here. It looks a bit empty."
Jimin smiled faintly, trying to picture it in his mind. "I can imagine it. Still, the air feels fresh. Do you miss Busan? Do you want to go back?" Jimin asked, his voice laced with curiosity and a hint of longing.
His grandfather hesitated, his hand pausing for a brief moment in Jimin’s hair. "N-no. No need," he said, his voice faltering. Jimin still didn’t know that his grandfather had sold their house and land in Busan to ensure they could live comfortably here. "I love living here, Jiminie."
Jimin furrowed his brows. Something felt strange. His grandfather had never liked living in the city—it was crowded and noisy, the complete opposite of the peaceful life he had always preferred.
"Are you sure?" Jimin asked again, his doubt evident in his voice.
"Yes, I'm sure," his grandfather replied, his tone steady. "And I know you like living here."
Jimin hesitated, a small smile playing on his lips. "No... not really," he answered shyly.
His grandfather chuckled, teasing him. "Yes, you do. You like living here because you have Jungkook."
At the mention of Jungkook's name, Jimin couldn't help but smile wider. His heart warmed, hearing his grandfather talk about him. Jungkook had been a huge help, always there for Jimin and Harabeoji, especially with Jimin's blindness.
"I can see your wide smile, Jiminie. Are you that happy just to hear his name?" Harabeoji teased, a playful grin on his face.
"Harabeoji..." Jimin covered his face with his hands, trying to hide his shyness, his cheeks warming at the thought of Jungkook.
"Ah, God... my Jiminie doesn't need me anymore. Now he has someone special." Harabeoji's voice trailed off, his lighthearted words interrupted by a violent cough. He clutched his chest, pain tightening his expression as the coughing grew stronger.
"Harabeoji!" Jimin sat up quickly, alarmed by the sound of his grandfather's struggle. Though he couldn’t see, the way his grandfather’s breathing hitched filled him with fear.
Harabeoji waved weakly, trying to brush it off, but his hand trembled. "I'm fine, Jiminie. Just a cough," he rasped, though his labored breathing betrayed his words. "Jiminie, let's go get some ice cream."
"Ice cream?" Jimin echoed in surprise.
"Yes, Harabeoji wants to eat chocolate ice cream," his grandfather said with a playful tone.
"But you're...," Jimin hesitated, knowing his grandfather's health hadn't been the best lately. Then he shook his head and smiled. "Okay!" He jumped up quickly, realizing this wasn’t the time to deny his grandfather anything. He was determined to make sure his every wish was fulfilled.
