"Anyone hungry?" Eliza Bennett asked everyone in the lounge, whilst pulling out a freshly baked batch of gingerbread cookies. "No thanks, I'm good" replied Mike. He was on the couch sipping a juice box, cuddling his teddy bear and playing Monopoly with his Dad, Jim. "Are you kidding?! I'm starving!" Jim said, and grabbed 3 cookies and headed back. "C'mon, Mike! They're gingerbread! Your favourite!" Eliza pleaded.
"Alright, mom. Alright." Mike replied as he grabbed 2 cookies and sat back down next to his dad. Surprisingly, this years purge was going okay. It was 8:30, and the purge started at 7:00. Mike smiled softly as the gingerbread entered his mouth. His mom was right. His favourite. Jim looked down at Mike. "Any good?" He asked as he took his turn. "You betcha!" Mike answered with glee and looked up at his mom, who smiled back. Jim took a bite, then another, then gave his wife the thumbs up.

Everybody was silent.
It was common knowledge never to open the door during Purge Hours. But at the time everyone had overlooked that fact.
'I'll get it." Eliza sighed, putting down the cookies and heading for the door.

She twisted the doorknob.
