I sigh as I pick up the decorated plates and pile them on the already heavy stack in my hands. This is not what I was planning to be doing this Friday night.
"Thank you!" The customers say at an attempt at being polite. I know they don't really mean it. I've always had trouble remembering to say things that other people view as common courtesy. I remember to say you're welcome and realize the people I'm serving tonight have already lost interest. I sigh and walk to the back, dumping the plates in the bin to be washed.

I look at my phone. 7:30. The diner closes at nine. Working here is so tedious. A glance out the window. Sometimes I appreciate the New York City skyline. This is not one of those times. I hear the bell hanging on the door ring. Great. Another customer. I walk out of the back and see the new customer. He's breathtaking. He has piercing red eyes (is that normal?) and long, black hair. It's not long enough to be gross, but it's a little longer than most guys' hair is.

I take his order, which is a classic hamburger and fries, and I make my way to the back thinking about how downright hot he is. With his long, slender figure and piercing red eyes, he could be straight out of a fantasy book. Wait. Red eyes. Why is that familiar? Oh no. I turn around. Everyone in the kitchen is on the floor, dead. Blood seeping from their necks. I stifle a scream. He can't hear me. Hopefully. I carefully peek out and he just sitting there calmly. His head jerks towards me and waves with a smirk. I turn back around. This can't be happening. I need to get out of here. My head flashes back to when I was a kid, my parents giving me lessons on what the called the scum of the earth. Vampires.

"Now Steph, what color is the most powerful vampire's eyes?" I remember my father saying to me.

"Red!" I said eagerly, pleased to think I was impressing my father.

"That's right!" He said, with the a big smile on his face, as if I had successfully recited the alphabet for the first time. "Do we like vampires?"

"No!" This was a game to me. Answer the questions right, and I get a piece of candy. That's how it was in this house. My parents weren't like the strict anti-vampire parents in books. My parents truly believed the world would be a better place without them. They were telling me lessons so I would one day follow in their footsteps. I was to young then to realize I had my own opinion. Later on in life, I realized I had a passion in music. Of course, my parents called it a phase, and didn't listen to me when I told them where my real passion lied.

"Now, now, Steph," my mother told my when I revealed my secret passion. "Vampires are evil, and must be stopped. You want that too, don't you sweetheart?"

I went on with her rambling when I realized my parents would never accept me for who I really am, but the truth is that I stayed up at night thinking about the impossible decision I'd have to make.

I shake my head. Now is no time for reminiscing. My life is in danger here. Think Stephanie, think! I got nothing. I turn around and notice stairs going up to the roof. I turn around to make sure the vampire isn't following me, and run up the stairs.

The roof is cold and windy, but I walk to the edge of the roof. I hear the crunching of a leaf. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. This can't be happening! Goddamnit Stephanie! Pull yourself together! You will calm yourself down, deep breaths, and turn around to face your pursuer.

I turn around.

There's nothing there.

I'm so tired I'm imagining things now. Great. I take a step back in relief. There's no ground on my foot. Suddenly there's no ground. I'm falling there's a sinking feeling in my stomach. I'm scared. Some people say that in near death experiences, you see your life flash before your eyes. That's not true. You see every moment of the fall. The floor getting closer and closer. I close my eyes. Nothing can save me now. Why an I such an idiot? I open my eyes again. A shadow flashes in front of my eyes. I fall into cold arms and I can't hold on any longer. Black dots start to dance around my vision. The last thing I see is a pale white face and eyes as red as blood.

Hi guys! Chloe here! This is my second big project on this app and I'm very excited to start this one! You may have come here from my Harry Potter fan fiction "Hermione Malfoy", but if you didn't, please consider checking that out. Thank you!
