I Am From Kentucky

A state that told me
Who I was
Is a choice of sin.
That it's wrong
To love someone
Unless they have opposite anatomy.

A state that told me
Who I was
Is a product
Of horseshoes and hand grenades,
Because almost
Is good enough somewhere.

A state that told me
Who I was
Belonged to drugs and alcohol.
My mother knew
And my father was the one
Who cried to take me back.

A state that told me
I am the wrong kind of human being.
