Kylo groaned under his breath as Hux took out yet another one of his pieces. Hux was very good at this game and worse, Kylo realized that the only one he had ever played this game with was Chewbacca who had always let him win. And he had let Chewbacca win on several occasions because he felt guilty because he knew that the Wookiee was going easy on him. Thinking back he realized he had never really had a challenging match on this game, he had only played it as a fun game as a kid, he had never played it in a competitive way.
"Haha" Hux yelled victorious as he took out Kylo's last piece
Kylo shook his head. "You win General, I can't compete with your strategy."
"So I guess that means we'll be giving the first order a call" Hux said as a sly smile painted it's self across his face.
Kylo glared at him.
Hux stood and walked towards the door.
Kylo reached out with the Force and froze the General where he stood. "I try not to break my word, and I agreed to this to prevent bloodshed, but I can't let you do that. She's my mother, I failed her once and I won't make that mistake again."
"You really have changed" Hux said
Kylo looked down. "I know," he said. "But I can't be what I once was. Now that Snoke is gone my mind is finally free of the darkness, the torment that he has inflicted me with my whole life, I can finally be who I really am... and I'm sorry General but I am weak and foolish, just like my father, but I can't be anything else not anymore not now that I'm free. I tried to be like my grandfather but I'm not. I failed him," without realizing it he released his hold on Hux and put his hands on his head. He felt the weight of what he had just confessed wash over him. Worse he had confessed it to someone that he wasn't sure if he could trust.
"For starters" Hux's voice was sharp "your father wasn't weak, you never knew you grandfather so you don't really know what he was like and second of all I was joking"
"I... I thought that you were just like Snoke," he answered. "I thought that you saw me as nothing but a weak and foolish boy who would never amount to anything."
"You've already amounted to more than he ever will be, he was evil and used fear to gain what he wanted, kindness is much better the that and...and always will be" Hux replied
Kylo looked at him surprised. "You've changed too, Hux."
"Maybe I was always this way I just ever let you see it" Hux smirked.
Kylo nodded. "I hope this means that we can work together now. Maybe we can even use the First Order to do some good for a change."
Hux thought for a moment, his whole time in the First Order he thought he had been doing good, well better than his father had but now that he looked back all the things he had done, hurt people just like he had been hurt by his father, he took parents away from there kids and kids away from their parents he nodded slowly growing more and more ashamed of what he had done "yes maybe we can do some good to repay all the evil we've done over the years"
Ben nodded. "Perhaps we can even try to end this war, maybe we can convince the Resistance that we're different from Snoke, that we are willing to compromise."
"Hmm maybe but the rest of the First Order might not feel the same way we do and the Resistance...well we've been fighting and killing them for years I'm not so sure they'd be very forgiving not to mention we don't know where they are and even if we did if we sent and ship for negotiations they'd shot it from the sky"
Ben nodded. "You're right, they would probably never forgive us. I'm just tired of fighting over nothing. This war has lasted too long, Snoke promised that eventually there would be peace, but I see no sign of it." He looked down. "I... I was hoping that I would be able to make amends with my mother before it's too late."
"I said it would be hard I didn't say it was impossible" Hux says trying to raise some hope.
"You really think that it's possible?"
"Well we won't know if we don't try, this base on Hoth seems like a good place to start changing the ways of the First Order" Hux answered
Ben nodded. "You're right, we have to try."
"Of course I'm right as usual Ren" Hux smirked
He shook his head, but didn't say anything.
