Chapter 5
I had gotten up extra early that morning since i needed to get to school from Iz’s house. We may be cousins but i schooled further than her. The good thing was i did not have to fight to use the bathroom. Iz woke up half an hour later with Elle. They had to decide who could use the bathroom first. I left while they were still getting ready.
I slung my bag onto my back and jumped off the bus. I brushed off dust from my shirt and tucked stray strands of hair from my face. Clad in navy blue skirt and starch white shirt with a stripy tie, i felt far from attractive. I dragged my feet into the school gate and i made my way to the usual spot. I threw my bag on the floor and leaned against the wall.
“You done the chemistry worksheet?” Lisa asked me.
I nodded and shuffled through my bag to get it. Lisa rarely does her work so it was common for her to ask for our homework before class started. She took it from me and blew me a kiss. I laughed softly and turned to see Dee staring at me. She smiled and i returned it. Shana was chewing on her apple and reading through some notes.
“So, Dave made the team,” Dee said, smiling.
I nodded. “He’s in Limerick for a match.”
“I know. He told me. Hope he wins it,” she said, playing with her long ponytail.
“Yeah, he better. He was practically bouncing when he told me,” i said, laughing at the memory.
Dee had a wide grin on her face. “Really? He’s coming back soon.”
“This Friday, if i’m not wrong,” i stated, nodding.
“You free after school?” she asked, blue eyes shining.
I nodded. “I got nothing. Why?”
“Let’s hang out. We haven’t done that for a long time,” she said, smiling.
I raised my eyebrows. “Oh, okay. That’d be great.”
The bell rang and we scattered to our different classes. I had chemistry with Shana. Dee went off for English. All through chemistry i thought about what Dee said. She had invited me to go out with her. i wondered what she wanted to talk about. It had been such a long time since we went out together alone. She must have something to say. Maybe she wanted to threaten me or blackmail me. i chastised myself for thinking that and paid full attention in class.
It was not long before i heard the bell indicating the end of school ring. As i left my maths class, Dee stood beside my locker. She was talking to Josh and giggling at what he was saying. I rolled my eyes. She was not exactly flirting with him but she lapped at the attention any boy gave her.
“I’m here,” i remarked, making her turn.
“Hey, Julia,” Josh greeted, leaning against a locker.
I nodded. “Hey, can you move so i can get to my locker?”
Mumbling an apology, he moved and i opened my locker forcefully. Dumping my books, i shut it loudly, getting Dee’s attention. She turned her blue eyes on me, annoyed. Josh looked at me, confused. I smiled sweetly and watched as Chloe strode towards her boyfriend.
“Josh,” she called.
Josh turned and a huge grin spread across his face. He grabbed her face. Dee and i stared as he planted his lips on her. i could practically see her melting as he kissed her. Her whole body seemed to sag against his. After a few seconds, i turned away. Dee remained staring.
Chloe pulled away, her cheeks flushed and her blue eyes misty. She had a dreamy smile on her face as she wrapped an arm around Josh’s waist. Josh had his arm protectively around hers. They looked like the perfect couple and it made my stomach turn. I looked at Dee and saw the smile on her face.
