I feel as if I could fly away when you look at me.
Your gaze paints me blue and gold.
You change me overnight.
I'm cocooned in your arms, waiting to be renewed;
All because you give me butterflies.
I fly away when you talk to me.
Drinking in your sweet nectar, I listen to you eagerly.
Your words glide over me.
Your fingers brush my hair.
You give me wings;
All because you give me butterflies.
But it can never be.
You catch me in a jar, you put me on display.
My wings are nothing to you.
I died in the jar.
My wings crumbled like my self-esteem.
And suddenly, I was just another butterfly to your collection.
Except this time, I was a different colour.
Painted blue and gold.
All this?
All because you gave me butterflies.
