Chapter 13

A/N: Two things!

1. I just wanted to say thanks to wolfdragon03 and Unicorn_Sparkles2006 for voting on my chapters and reading this. It means a lot to me! Also, check out Unicorn_Sparkles2006 's Miraculous fanfics! Lady Luck is my favorite so far, but another one - The Other Holders- is also really good! (in my opinion!!)

2. I know this chapter is kinda short, but it's not super boring- I promise! Short and sweet! 

Chat was in pain. More pain than he had ever felt. His heart ached from his father's betrayal. His head was throbbing from his newfound revelation that Mari was Ladybug. His body was in agony from the physical torment Hawkmoth had put him through. Chat Noir was ready to go, comforted by the fact that Marinette was alive and would be able to go on without him. The darkness that surrounded him offered solace and peace from the pain he was feeling. He said goodbye to Marinette and looked at her for the final time. This time, he noticed how she was completely still. The color from her cheeks had disappeared and was replaced by a paper-white paleness that struck fear into Chat Noir's heart. She looked... dead.

Chat Noir stared in shock at Marinette's bloody and bruised body. He reached a hand out towards her and tenderly pushed back a lock of hair from her face.

"Marinette..." He gently whispered her name as if it were fragile glass that threatened to shatter at any moment. He held her for a long time, caressing her cold cheek and her seemingly lifeless body. Before he knew it, he had de-transformed into Adrien Agreste.

Plagg came flying out to find his owner silently sobbing over Mari's body. The kwami wasn't the best at expressing his feelings so he just flew towards Adrien and comforted him with his presence. A streak of red caught Plagg's eye. "Tikki?" He flew over to the red blob to investigate. Lying on the floor was a motionless Tikki.

It was Plagg's turn to freak out. "Sugarcube! Don't leave me! I'll take you to Master Fu. I-I-I can fix this. I can fix this." Tikki was his partner, his love, his other half. She completed him. Her good heart was the reason he tried every day to be a better person. Plagg couldn't lose her.

Plagg's dramatic wailing shocked Adrien back into reality. Adrien refused to believe she was truly gone. He held Marinette in his arms and gently tried to wake her up, but it was no use. "Mari! Come on! You... you have to wake up." He held her close to his chest. "I need you."

Behind the crying pair stood Hawkmoth who was turned away from them both. He slowly pivoted to face Plagg and Adrien. "I haven't felt such strong emotions in a long time," Hawkmoth called for two butterflies to gravitate towards him. "My powers have grown far beyond yours. I am now capable of akumatizing two people at once and you both get the honor of being my first pair." With a flick of his wrist, the two white butterflies turned an ominous shade of black.

Plagg and Adrien looked up at Hawkmoth, eyes teeming with fear. "Father, don't do this." Adrien cautiously backed away with Plagg close behind him.

"Oh, Adrien. I can't let this opportunity pass me by." Hawkmoth raised his cane. "Fly away my little akumas and evilize them!"

The akumas shot forward and flew straight into their hearts. Their hearts turned obsidian black as the Akuma's dark energy took over.

Hawkmoth gave a sinister grin and a glowing purple mask appeared over both of their faces. "Heart Assassins, love has hurt you both so deeply. Adrien, you loved Ladybug more than anything and now she is gone. The love you felt for her is the reason it hurts so much now that she's gone. The same thing happened with your mother. You loved her, but all she did was leave. Plagg, you have loved Tikki for thousands of years and yet time and time again, she has had to leave you. This time, it's for good. If love didn't exist, your pain wouldn't either. I'm giving you both the opportunity to destroy love for good by bestowing upon you the power to turn a heart to dust. All I ask in return is for you to locate the Miracle box and return it to me!"

"Yes, Hawkmoth." The nefarious duo jumped out of the window and into the night in search of the Miracle box.

Hawkmoth knew he had both of the Miraculous in his possession, but in order to ensure that he could bring back his wife, he needed them all. His entire mind had become corrupted with a thirst for power and nothing could quench it. He had acquired the Ladybug and Chat Noir Miraculous, but he still wanted more and he would not rest until he had them all.
