Meanwhile at the hospital, Jack finally revealed that he was awake during the entire conversation that Lureen had with Ennis. "I'm not stupid, Jack. I knew you weren't sleepin'," She snapped, yet used the same hollow tone of voice. "I didn't ask you to invite Ennis here," Jack simply replied. Lureen knew how to get what she wanted, but this left Jack clueless and a bit scared mixed with worry. The mischievous woman stood her feet, walked to the foot of the hospital bed, and then declared, "You can have your precious little Ennis, but I want Bobby."
Bobby. Jack had not even thought about his son. Then again, he could barely think after what happened and with the condition he was left in. Lureen turned and walked towards the exit. "Bobby's almost grown. Besides, he was raised in the most homophobic state in the U.S. I'm sure he wouldn't want anything to do with his queer of a father anyway.." There was no response, only the sound of her heels with each footstep and the closing door.
Like Alma, Lureen felt many different emotions collide all at once. She wanted to break down in tears but scream in anger also. She felt like every word that Jack spoke was a lie. Their marriage was a lie, their family was a lie. Jack was only using Lureen to fill the emptiness that he felt inside. One person could fulfill that emptiness and that was Ennis. Lureen simply could not believe that Jack would have not contact at all with Bobby, just so he can have a life with the man she felt so much hatred toward at the moment. She was only using Ennis and Bobby as a threat to Jack, but it wasn't working at all. While she was walking down the hospital halls, she made up her mind: once Jack had recovered, they were getting a divorce, she wanted full custody over Bobby, and she never wanted to see Jack and Ennis for the rest of her life.
