Friday night, 2034

The apocalypse has begun. Me and my sister are the only ones in my family that have survived. Once a week we go to the ShopRite near our house. Once there is no more food and water there, we will find another place to go. We are running out of time.

Saturday morning, 2034

Our neighbors left 10 hours ago to get groceries. They have not yet returned. Nyala says we should go after them. She keeps begging with me, saying, "Ayana, PLEASE! My best friend is gone! I can't just sit here!" I must stand my ground. I continue to remind her that we must stay hidden from the Roamers. I know they will find us eventually, but I do not want to hurry them along. It is dangerous enough going to the store to get what we need.

Tuesday afternoon, 2034

We went to the store today and we found something that broke Nyala's heart. Narran's father. I heard her scream, and I ran over to her, fearing the worst. Once I reached her what I saw wasn't a Roamer, but the effect on my sister was, if possible, worse than if she had seen one. At least she knows how to protect herself from the Roamers. Seeing the body of her best friend's father had an effect on her mind that no Roamer could equal. She collapsed into my arms. Luckily, she weighs almost nothing, so I was able to carry her home. We will return another day.

Wednesday morning, 2034

I left Nyala at home today. We need food but I can't bring her for a few months. She needs to rest.

Wednesday afternoon, 2034

I found her sitting in the road, waiting for the Roamers to find her. I had to bring her inside. She fought me, disheartened. She was convinced that, because we found his father, Narran was also dead. I can't let her think that way. She is all I have left in this world. I can not lose her too.

Sunday night, 2034

We finally found Narran. The day after I found Nyala sitting in the road, I knew I finally had to give in. She was all I had. We packed our bags, got on our bikes, and headed for Narran's family's summer home. We could have taken the solar car, but Nyala's bliss is riding her bike. I watched her zooming through town with her chestnut hair flying out behind her and I knew I had made the right choice. After two days of riding, we finally reached the house. Running through the entire place, Nyala called Narran's name. I stayed outside and climbed the tallest tree I could find so that I could watch the road for any signs of the Roamers. After 20 minutes, I saw movement in the forest. Slowly, I shifted my position so as to face it head on. Soon, I saw Narran creep out from behind some bushes. I climbed down the tree, and soon dropped to the forest floor. Grabbing his arm, I pulled Narran into the house and called Nyala down, who had been searching for him under his bed. As soon as she saw Narran, she threw her arms around him until he finally extricated himself from her grasp.
"Okay, okay. It's good to see you too, girl," He said as soon as soon as she stopped babbling about how happy she was to see him and telling him everything that happened since he left, including the part where she had decided to give up on life because she thought she would never see him again.

Monday morning, 2034

We've been here for two weeks now. Nyala has not yet left Narran's side, and I believe he is getting tired of it. We are running out of food and need to leave soon . I have decided to let Narran have my bike, and I will take his family's horse. I will ride behind the two with both holsters filled, and another gun in my right hand. We will set off at noon.

Tuesday night, 2034

We made it to the nearest Wegmans. Nyala and Narran locked up the bikes, but I brought the horse inside, just in case some Roamers came along. I prefer a live horse to a Roamer one. A Roamer horse would try to eat me. If I want to keep my sister and her friend safe, I have to stay alive.
