A/N: Inspiration struck! I was sitting at a Starbucks after school to do homework when suddenly I discovered that math homework is boring. So, I closed my math notebook, opened up my laptop and wrote this very long chapter. It's like 2700 words so... I hope this makes up for any short chapters I've posted! I would have broken the chapter up in half because it's so long, but it flows way better as one full chapter. Anyways, enjoy! (Also thanks to everyone who reads this! I have over 300 reads and I am so happy!)

This note is kind of important, hence the underline (fancy, I know). Just keep in mind that this whole story takes place before Miracle Queen (season 3 finale)!

The Heart Assassins were the most powerful villains Hawkmoth had ever created. An akumatized superhero and an akumatized kwami working for him would give Hawkmoth a power that he had only ever dreamed of obtaining. Plagg, a supernatural being with the unbridled power of pure destruction, would be able to bring about chaos throughout the city. Adrien wasn't under his superhero persona when he was akumatized, but he was powerful nonetheless. Together, Hawkmoth was certain they would not fail him in locating and seizing the Miracle Box.

The Heart Assassins hid in the shadows and stalked their most recent victims. They had turned hearts into ashes across the city, but their newest target was a young couple holding hands while walking around the streets of Paris. To Plagg and Adrien, love only caused pain, but they would spare the poor couple the pain of love by destroying their hearts. As the poor couple rounded the corner, they came face to face with the Heart Assassins.

"We know you love each other, but trust us. Love can only bring pain and torment into your lives." Adrien spoke to the couple before telling his partner, "Go ahead Plagg. Relieve them from the pain that love can bring."

Plagg nodded in acknowledgment and raised a staff given to him when he was akumatized. He pointed the staff at the heart of the woman. Her face was frozen with terror and the man she was with embraced her with arms of protection, but there was no stopping the Heart Assassins. With a silent wave of his staff, the woman's heart turned to ash. She went limp and fell to the floor. Before the poor man had a chance to react, Adrien did the same to him as Plagg had done to the girl. As his heart faded away, the man groaned and fell to the floor next to his motionless girlfriend.

A moment of silence followed when both the man and the woman slowly stood up. They faced Adrien and Plagg. "Thank you for freeing us from our pain," they said in unison. Their eyes were empty, void of all emotion. Plagg and Adrien were right about one thing; love brings pain. What they failed to acknowledge was that love also brought plenty of positive emotions as well. Without the hope for love, happiness is much harder to achieve. The couple walked off in separate directions neither one stopping to say goodbye to the other.

The satisfaction both of the Heart Assassins felt was enough to push them forward in their search for the Miracle Box. A purple mask appeared over both of their faces. The voice of Hawkmoth came out and sternly reminded them. "Heart Assassins, your work so far is commendable. I can continue to give you this power, but I need the Miracle Box to do this. Remember your main goal. Get. The. Miracle. Box." The ominous voice paused. "Now." The purple outline faded away. Plagg and Adrien shared a look of understanding. They needed to get the box just as Hawkmoth commanded. Now.

Plagg looked at Adrien with a satisfactory grin. "Getting the Miraculous should be easy. I know where the box is. The Guardian has it."

"Well then, lead the way!" Adrien motioned forward with his arm gesturing Plagg to go in front of him.

Plagg flew away into the Paris night sky turning to look behind him every once in a while to make sure Adrien was keeping up.
