THE BEAST

If there is one thing he cares not to hide,

It is the monster contained deep inside.

If I'm happy, then he's absorbed in sadness,

Is it the monster that's driven him to such madness?

On dark days he's pleased and on bright one's he's depressed,

What has become of the man with whom I was obsessed?

But I digressed, it was the monster inside him that deprived him of rest,

That made him hateful and ungrateful and cold hearted,

The good in him has long since departed.

It is no surprise our lives have separated,

But without him I feel horribly degraded.

Will the evil in him ever subside?

I can't live without him, a part of me has died.

But I knew, when the love between us had ceased,

It was not because of him, no,

it was because of the beast.
