Ever since you were little, you saw things in people that they often times couldn't even see in themselves. Behaviors. Patterns. It caused you to stare, and most of the time those around you thought it to be creepy. You always looked so much farther past what everyone else did, and it was almost unnatural the way you stared people down. It made people talk.

That was why your team in middle school ditched you. That was why the one person you had ever formed romantic feelings for rejected you. That was why it was so hard for you to make friends.

Kiyoko was one of the only people who wasn't weirded out by your habits. She didn't mind that you took notes on everyone you met. She didn't mind that you hyper analyzed people like they were mere characters in a story. She saw the weirdest parts of you and wasn't disturbed. You loved her for it. Perhaps more than you wanted to admit.

So when you sat down in the corner and immediately started watching everyone like you were trying to dissect them, Kiyoko was unphased. She simply smiled and sat down besides you, noting how your eyes followed the path the ball took whenever the black haired first year set it.

You couldn't deny that the orange haired first year working with him was impressive. It was incredible to see the speed he possessed. It was almost unnatural. Almost like watching someone fly. You knew without a doubt that with time, the kid would be a monster on the court.

His technique could use some work, and if he keeps his eyes closed the entire time, he'll only be relying on the setter... but that sort of speed takes talent, you thought to yourself. You twirled a strand of your hair with your fingers as you chewed your lip.

It was the unkind words of the second-year sporting a stupid looking buzzcut that dragged you out of your thoughts.

"Say, that new chick might not be as pretty as our goddess, but it's not just me when I say that it's weird the way she's looking at Hinata and Kageyama, right?" he asked Sugawara, probably assuming that you couldn't hear him.

Unfortunately for him, you could, and you were a bit more hurt by his statement than you wanted to admit.

"Her name is (Y/N), Tanaka," the third-year deadpanned. "And she seems really nice. You really shouldn't judge based off looks. And you especially shouldn't be comparing the appearances of two completely different women."

You decided to stop listening. You didn't want to concern yourself with Tanaka's response. Instead, you moved your focus to your phone. Two new notifications greeted you, and you had to refrain from smiling. You adored your friends from your old school.

You really missed them. You responded to their texts as casually as you could, trying your best not to seem over excited. Based on a certain someone's replies, you could tell that your nonchalant attitude was not as fortified as you wanted it to be.

You really miss us that bad? They asked teasingly.

You snorted, typing out a response. Me? Miss you? Never.

You set your phone down just as it buzzed again. It was like it was challenging you to reply. You really wanted to check it. But... you had other things to do right now. So you sighed, silencing the damn thing and returned your focus to where the boys where practicing.

Kiyoko, if she noticed the interaction, didn't comment on it. Instead she chose to motion in the direction of the people on the court, speaking in a soft voice that was only reserved for you. "They may seem like a rowdy bunch, but they come together when they need to. They're nice enough when you get to know them. And if you don't like them yet, it'll get better once we get the missing pieces back."
