bored

Sigh.

Life had always been a little boring, ever since you woke up from your petrification. There wasn't really anything to do- sure you enjoyed the nice scenery, but what else could you really do to entertain yourself? Ever since humans turned to stone thousands of years ago, the world reset itself. No buildings, no roads, no cars, no technology.

You were grateful to Tsukasa for reviving you, yes, but life could be boring. You helped with all the daily chores that were to be done, and sometimes you went off to the forest or river to explore, see what kinds of things you could find. You'd find pebbles and stones and try to occupy yourself with them, by drawing in the dirt or constructing small houses. You didn't really talk to anyone, because conversations either got boring or awkward, or never got past "How are you?", "Oh, I'm good".

Each day you'd see new faces around, those who had just been newly revived. You hoped that one of those people that had gotten revived could bond with you. You just wanted a friend to keep you company in the days of no technology.

One day you were wondering around the forest, seeing what interesting things you could find, when you noticed something up in a tree. At first you didn't know what it was, so you began to walk towards it. Once you got closer, you realized it was a person sitting up on a tree branch. It didn't look like he could see you, so you decided to say something.

"Hey," you said. The boy looked down at you. "What are...you doing up there?" you asked, gazing up at him. He shrugged. "I'm out here for a job, really. But nothing's happening," he replied.

You talked to him for a while, since you both didn't really have anything else to be doing. You found out his name was Ukyo Saionji, and had been revived about 2 weeks ago. Apparently he had super good hearing, due to his past job, thus why Tsukasa revived him. Interesting.

Eventually you sighed, picking up a pebble. "Ukyo, do you ever think life around here gets...boring?" you asked.

"Boring? What do you mean?" he replied, looking at you.

"Well, I don't know. It's just that without technology or the proper...well, tools, we can't really entertain ourselves. I suppose we could just learn to craft a soccer ball or basketball, though it won't be the same. But we can't create cell phones, TVs, stuff like that," you huffed. Ukyo thought for a moment, then spoke. "Well, I guess we could always take in the scenery or get involved in nature. But I see where you're coming from, it does get boring from time to time." You nodded, smiling. "Oh, I really should be going...I promised to help out with dinner today," you said, turning to walk, but then stopped. "Will you be here again tomorrow?" He nodded. "I'm kind of stationed here." You smiled. "I'll come and keep you company, then. I've really got nothing going on." Ukyo gave a small smile and nodded.

And with that, you parted.

You would visit him day after day, talking to him. You'd talk about all sorts of things- what your lives were like before the world became petrified, what you would do now, etc. You really enjoyed his company and he enjoyed yours. It was nice to finally have someone to talk to in this stone world. With each visit you'd both get each other a little gift, whether it be some sort of flower, berry, or even a cool stone you happened to find by the river. As your friendship with Ukyo deepened, you couldn't help but feel something more. Though, you just decided to ignore it. You didn't really think your feelings for Ukyo would be anything more than just friends, and that's what you've always told yourself. But your feelings only grew stronger. You didn't want to tell him, because you couldn't risk losing your only friend in this world. Because what if he didn't like you back? It would grow awkward, and worst case scenario, Ukyo would stop talking to you. You didn't want that. You didn't want your friendship with him to end, but you also wanted to be something more with him.

When you came to see him today, you could feel your heart beating quickly in your chest. You grew nervous as you came closer to the tree he was usually perched on, and jumped when he greeted you.

"Hey," Ukyo said, "are you...okay? You seem kind of jumpy today." You nodded, trying to look him in the eyes but failing. You turned away as your face heated up. God, your face was probably so red right now, he'd for sure notice.

He kept silent for a moment, before climbing down and placing a hand on your shoulder. "Are you sure you're okay? Here, why don't we sit down?" Ukyo said, taking a seat and gesturing for you to sit next to him. You gulped and sat next to him, looking down at the dirt. "So what's up?" the boy asked. You turned your head to look at him and your eyes met with his. You wanted to turn away- to run away, in fact, but you were frozen. Your breath caught in your throat, and you wanted to say something, but you couldn't. Instead all you could do was look at Ukyo, and even then your eyes were wandering, looking around at the trees, dirt, and sky.

Then you suddenly felt Ukyo's hand tilting your chin up a little. You could feel your face go red, and your heart began beating even faster. You watched as he removed his hand and set it on his lap, looking at you eagerly.

You took a deep breath.

"Well, Ukyo, the truth is...really, I'm not okay. I guess, I-I don't know. Lately I just...God, please don't think of me any differently but, lately I think...something's happened. I love being with you, and everytime I'm with you my heart beats a little bit faster and my face heats up. I tried to not think about it, but the more I deny it, the stronger my feelings for you get. I...really think I've fallen in love with you, Ukyo. I just...hope that if you don't feel the same way, we can just forget about this and continue on as friends. I really don't want to go back to having no one to talk to."

Ukyo was silent, breaking his eye contact to look at the ground. A wave of terror washed over you. Oh god, he probably thought that was really weird. Oh my god. You messed up, big time.

But you saw Ukyo smile, and he looked back up at you. "Really?" he asked, his eyes glistening like he was about to cry. You nodded. "Really."

Your breathing slowed down as Ukyo placed his hands on either side of your head, and leaned in. Your heart seemed to melt as you felt Ukyo place his lips on yours, in a soft, gentle kiss. It was everything you had ever wanted. You placed your hands on his shoulders and kissed him back. His lips were soft and warm, feeling good on yours. As you both parted away, you smiled. "Now that," you began, giving Ukyo a hug, "was the best thing that's ever happened to me." He laughed and wrapped his arms around you, resting his head on top of yours. "Same here," he replied. You hugged Ukyo tightly. Being in his loving embrace just seemed to make you fall in love with the cute boy even more.

"Ukyo."

"Yea?"

"I love you," you said, moving so you could look at him.

He smiled softly before placing another gentle kiss on your lips.

"I love you, too."
