BUZZ BUZZZ

Waking up, I hear my phone going off. I got a message saying that my work will be here around two, but I should do some laundry and clean up a bit until then. Getting up from the couch, I see that Lissa is sleeping.

Trying to disturb her, I grab the remote and turned the tv off. Walking into my bedroom, I throw the blanket onto my bed. Gathering my clothes into the basket separating the drakes and the lights, I see that I have enough for a medium load each. Grabbing my phone and some headphones, putting them both in the basket and the first load of clothes.

Walking back into the living room with the basket in hand, I see that Lissa has taken up all of the couch now. I left her a note by her cup, saying that I'll be downstairs doing laundry. Zoning out, I try to think back when I gave my number to Tyler.

As I was getting ready for the Christmas masquerade party, I noticed that Lissa was getting our masks out of the box.

"Are you sure I have to go to this?" I say, looking in the mirror at the expense dress I got for this evening. It's a floor-length ballroom dress with one shoulder; it's a dark blue with gold vines at the bottom and the shoulder of the dress with a little bit of black along with the gold fitted at the top, and flares out around the middle of the waste, with some black pumps to go with it.

"Well, seeing that it's the Christmas party of the company and you work there, I'm going to say yes, you have to go."

"Fine, but I need help deciding what I should do with my hair. Should I put it up or down? Maybe half down and half up?"

"Put it up in a nice bun. Here I'll help," Lissa said, coming in wearing a baby pink floor-length dress with flowers on it; it's a short sleeve that has white flowers with yellow centers throughout the gown. It hung to her in all the right places and then fell loosely at the bottom. She paired hers with some gold pumps.

"Thanks," I said while I sat on my bed. "By the way, thanks for coming with me. I know it's not the social event of the year."

"It's fine, plus we both need to get out, and I was looking for an excuse to wear this dress," she said, smiling. "And we both look amazing. Alright, all done."

"Thanks. You will never believe it, but I put on my makeup on my own, and I think I like it," I said, standing up. "Okay, are you ready?"

"See, I knew practice you can master it. I will never be ready for any company parties, including my own," Lissa says with a wink.

"Yes, but at least yours don't get boring after an hour or so," I say, walking out behind Lissa with our coats and locking the door. "Anne said that she would come over in about an hour or so to check on Snuggles. I left her dinner money; she hasn't eaten anything. And before you ask, she's coming after school." I say after we climb into the car.

Anne is our neighbor, a couple of years younger than us, but still is in school and is on her own after she decided to move away from her family.

"Did I tell you that at least two hundred people are coming. I mean, it's bad enough that I have to go there five days a week and now this. But at least it's the weekend." I ramble on as we make our way. I can see the lights from the building going off.

"Hey, it's going to be fine. What about the last party we went to?"

"It was less than a hundred, and it was outdoors. Don't get me wrong, I like going to parties, but I hate all the people. Plus, who decides these parties anyways? A Christmas masquerade ball. It sounds good in theory, and it might be beautiful but in the dead of winter in New York."

BUZZ BUZZ

My phone goes off and takes me out of the memory.

"Where are you? I'm at your door with your work."

"Hey, sorry I'm downstairs doing some laundry. I'll be right up," I say, grabbing my stuff and heading upstairs. While I walk upstairs, I realize that I have missed messages from Tyler.

'Are you coming into today.'

'It's Tyler, by the way. Your boss.'

'If you're not coming in, let me know.'

'Do you have a meeting scheduled for me? Because someone is here.'

'Someone is in your office... does that mean you quit. Or?'

'I guess you're not quitting just working from home today.'

'Um, call or text me; we need to talk.'

The last one that I received was about ten minutes ago. I sent Tyler a text saying that we need to talk, but I'll have to call him in about ten minutes.

"By the way, when I heard that you didn't show that Mr. Boss Man freaked out. And I don't blame him because he's so screwed without you," Jackson said, leaning against my door frame. "Also, here is all your work, and before you ask, yes, I did get a hair cut." Putting my work in my basket.

"Did he? Thank you for bringing this stuff, but after what happened yesterday, I think I needed this. And I know it's wrong because he's new and no one should've left him there by himself, but he had to put his big boy pants on and face reality." I say, putting the key in the lock and stepping inside.

"No problem, I got bored anyway."

"If you want to come in, you can. Lissa is sleeping, and I'm just going to do housework." I say, not wanting him to come in so I can call Tyler.

"Thanks, but sadly one of us still has to work," Jackson says, leaving with a wink.

"Have fun, and be careful getting back." I jumping with joy in my mind.

"I will bye."

"Bye." Smiling, I close the door, and I turn around to see Lissa is still sleeping on the couch.

I take my laundry basket in hand and head to my room. I'm nearly done with the laundry, but I still move to put it away, and then I text Tyler saying that I'm ready to call whenever he is. Not even two minutes later, he calls.

"So I knew yesterday or the past couple of days didn't go exactly to plan. But can we start over because I need help and you're the best person to help me. I don't want to ask my dad because I.. I don't want to fail, and I don't think I can do this without you," he exclaims out before I could get a hello in.

"Umm... I think we do need to sit down and talk though about the job and what we expect from each other. Does that sound fair?" I say, trying to wrap my head around this conversation that started.

"Yes, it does. How about tomorrow? Then we can go through the schedule. Because honestly, I was lost, and if you do plan on working from home again, could you please let me know."

"Ahh, that. Sorry, I had a power outage last night, and by the time I woke up, it was too late to come. But I'll let you know next time. And about tomorrow, it works."

"See you then," Tyler says and then hangs up.

Sorry for not updating for a while. But hopefully, with my new schedule, I'll be about to do it more often.
I also hope that everybody is staying safe with all that has been happening.
