Dear diary,
Today is the day to think differently, today I'm going to go to school and tell people "I'm okay, yes really I'm fine" and continue on with my day. I'm going to put a smile on my face and try to actually mean it. This year, it is has to different. It must...
"Nina! You are going to make us late to the first day of school, they are not going to give us breaks like last year!" screamed my youngest sister Sabrina from the bottom of the stairs.
"I'm coming, I'm coming"
"You know that means 5 more minutes right Sab?" Rebeka sassed. Rebeka was probably the most "troubled" of the three of us at least that's what the therapists would always tell us. To me she was just expressing her self which is something I appreciated from her... it was something I could never do.
As I walk down the stairs, of course five minutes later, the girls are both standing there looking up at me. Sabrina the tallest of the three of us at 5'8 and the most different with her very blond straight hair, so skinny still with no figure, her blue eyes very much speckled with brown, filled with excitement on her very first day of high school. As for Rebeka standing there with her very unorthodox clothing; her short leather skirt, exposed stomach, rock 'n roll shirt 3 sizes to small and 7 inch black studded boots. But behind all the clothing she was the exact image of our mother. With her curly crazy black hair, her almost fluorescent green eyes, the same as mine, and her perfect hourglass figure.
"Finally, let's go already!" Shouted Sabrina as she stormed out the door into the beat up 1969 red mustang my dad gave me junior year before everything happened...
We get to school and Sabrina jumped out as fast as possible at the sight of one of her friends from junior high. Rebeka saw her friends and waltz away also. I get my stuff and start heading to class everything feels so different I hope my plan to have a better year is actually going to fall through.
"Nina Ceb! You get your butt over here! I can't believe you won't say hi to your best friend before going to class!" Paige Screeched while running towards me.
"Paige I'm sorry, I'm just so tired this morning, I just want to get to class" I said keeping my head down.
"Oh no, don't you do this again this year! I already signed us up for the school helping committee!" She said in the most enthusiastic voice she could find.
"Ugh Paige..."
"Come on let's go to class and I'll tell you all about it" her arm ringed around mine as she walked me to my locker then to my class while telling me every little thing she could about the plans she had for us this year.
Paige Ringmen, she was high school prom queen for three years, the head cheerleader, did every single committee thing there ever was, and planned everything that goes on in our school. She is my best friend and has been since second grade or at least she will probably tell you that...
First and second class go by no one I really know but no one really care to know anyways. I need to get my diary out of my locker... I keep forgetting, I should have never put it in there this morning... I need to write, that's the only thing that keeps me sane anymore...
"Nina! Hey!" Here comes my ex-boyfriend, and quarterback our football team.
"Hey Ben." I say hoping I can practice what I preached this morning.
"So, what have you been up to?"
"Oh you know it was summer so... beach, tan, and swimsuits what everyone does, right?" I told him knowing that wasn't the truth.
"Right... Same here I guess and working..." He paused and continued with the next question he really wanted to start with.
"So how are you anyways?"
That was it, the day old question; I feared it last year but embraced this year. "I'm okay" I say, the words burned my mouth like fire.
"Well, I'll pretend you meant that." Ben smiled and starts walking away he murmurs "I know how you feel Nina, at least a little, remember that."
I did remember but at the same time it didn't change anything my parents were still dead... still murdered...
