That morning I was expecting a usual good morning text from my girlfriend Kaely. She always sent me a sweet, uplifting message, even when I know she was rushing to get out the door.

I rolled over on my king sized bed, one I hoped that Kaely would be in soon, and checked my iPhone for any messages.

None.

It wasn't like her to not message me. I sent her a quick message and got up to get ready for school.

' Kaely has been acting strange lately '

The more I thought about it, I was correct. Ever since that wild party about a month ago, she's been acting different. At first I thought nothing of it. My baby knew how to put on a good act.

I brushed my teeth and searched for my Axe gel. My hair is naturally in a faux hawk, but I like to add gel to make sure it's perfect. I doubled checked myself in the mirror after dabbing some cologne on. Black Polo was the scent of the month.

I put my diamond stud earrings in and put on my black G-Shock watch. I moon walked over to my big mirror and did a glance over. A red Hollister shirt, khaki cargos and tan Polos.

Yes, I looked good.

I rushed down stairs, checking my watch. 7:25 am. I had only ten minutes before the first bell.

"Bye Umi!" I yelled to my mother. Umi is Arabic for mom.

"Salam Adam!" She good-byed.

I walked outside to my gray Sonata and glanced across the street as I pulled out.

There was a black man carrying a huge box into the 'sold' house.

"Hmm black neighbors, cool."

I sped down the street hoping to get to school in time to find my mysterious girlfriend.

"Yo Adam! What took you so long?" My best friend, Ivan asked when I finally pulled into the Junior parking lot.

"Our nigga here had to get pretty!" Tye joked.

"Nah, just taking my time to look good. You know these ladies love me." I jived.

We walked up the marble stairs into our first hour, which was Art. I looked around class for Ms. Prim, our way too gorgeous teacher. I couldn't understand why she stayed single. If I was five years older, I'd marry her.

Kaely walked I'm and took her seat by the large window that overlooked the schools' garden.

"Hey baby", I greeted, kissing her forehead. "How come I didn't get a goodmorning text?"

"Oh yeah, I'm sorry hun. I had...business to take care of." She said.

"What kind if business?" I questioned.

"Just some personal stuff, no biggie."

I watched her closely. Something wasn't right about her.

"Hola class! Please get your projects and start working on them. They're due this Friday." Ms. Prim announced.

I collected my mixed media from the cabinet and went to sit at my station, only to find someone sitting there.

"Um, excuse me. This is my seat." I said, tapping on the persons shoulder.

A girl turned around and smiled sheepishly at me.

She still is so stunning to look at. Her hair, then the color of chestnut, was in a curly ponytail. Her skin is clear and flawless. The color of milk chocolate.

"I'm so sorry. I'm new here." Her full lips moved.

"It's okay," I smiled. "I'm Adam, Adam Nadeem." "Hi Adam. I'm Anhayla," she greeted. "Guess I'll have to find a new seat."

Ms. Prim walked over to us. "Anhayla! I forgot to introduce and set you!"

"It's okay Ms. Prim." She smiled.

"Class! Everyone meet our newest student, Anhayla Jones."

The class murmured hellos and welcomes and continued their work.

"Anhayla, you can sit here, next to Adam. Joey is no longer with u anymore."

Anhayla took her seat next to mine and pulled out a baby blue sketch pad. "So you're an artist?" I asked, sitting down.

"Um,yeah. Haha, I've been into art since as long as I can remember."

"Can I see some of your work?" I asked, curious to see what this girl was capable of.

"Sure, I'm not that great." She mumbled, handing me the pad.

As I flipped through her work, I marveled. She's incredible!

"Are you kidding? You're an amazing artist!" I exclaimed in awe.

She smiled slightly. "Thanks, I sometimes underestimate myself."

"Hey, never do that. You have some serious talent."

"Thanks, really."

"No problem, so where you from?"

"Well, we moved here from Texas but I'm originally from Louisiana." She answered, shading her work.

"Really? This morning I saw a new family move in." I smiles at her.

"Lots of new people in town." She smiled back brightly, showing off her braces.

The rest of that hour and a half, we got to know each other.
