After a good night's sleep the three of us are up, and ready to move. As we're packing, I notice Noah's ears perk through his hair. His eyes slowly move westward. Jayce and I look at one another and shrug. The only things we hear are the sounds of mother nature.

Within a minute or two, Noah changes his focus back to packing.

"We have to be careful. They're nowhere near us, but they've set traps around most of the trails."

He says.

Jayce and I give each other a dumbfounded glance.

"How the hell do you know that?"

I ask.

" I can hear them talking."

      "What?? How??"

" Part of my powers involve Super Hearing. I can hear up to 500 times farther than most people. It's actually why our ears are shaped the way they are..."

"What do you mean OUR EARS?"

I interrupt.

"Don't deny it. You have elf-like ears too. The tips of them are what catch the extra vibrations. Ones that the average human wouldn't be able to pick up without some sorta super hearing aid."

"So, how close are they to us then?"

" Most of them are set up within a 20-kilometer radius of us. I can't pinpoint exactly where until we get closer. Things could become dangerous."

The three of us set off. I could feel a little bug in my stomach, as I know we're largely outnumbered. I honestly can't remember the last time I was this scared. What I do remember though, is it takes a lot for me to feel this way.

Along our trek, the little lightning bolts again appear, and disappear from the trees. As we near another one, we stop. Noah's ears perk again. He slowly listens conscientiously in each direction; pausing a little longer towards the direction we're going.

"We can't take this way anymore. There's a lot more of them near this ecotone than others."

He says.

"So, they knew we were going this way?"

I ask.

"Seems so."

"But how? They're just normal humans? I mean yeah they're cops but..."

"And who do think the cops are working for?"

   " The government..."

"NO!!! Well, I mean yea but the A8 has the government and the entire police force across the UPL in their hand. Who's more powerful? Some people with a badge and a gun? Or eight different born assassins who have nothing but killing, and power on their mind? Think about it, you've taken down a couple coppa's."

Suddenly, we hear the sound of footsteps in the distance. Noah gives a quick peek towards the west, and says."

"Sounds like there's at least four of them. We gotta get out of here. You can learn powers upon seeing them correct?"

I nod.

"Good. Try this."

He says while dropping one of the backpacks to the ground.

He takes a knee while clenching a fist with the opposite hand, and slamming it to the ground. As he gets up his eyes glow a bright yellow. His brown curly hair turns black with electric blue tips. Flashes of lightning shoot between his hands as he holds them parallel to each other. His yellow t-shirt turns dark blue. I stand in awe, as I haven't seen this side of Noah before.
