A screen, sitting in the middle of the room at the head console, flashed brightly, its red and white colors indicating something terrible was on its way—something major and something to be immensely concerned about, if he were to guess right. Director Fury cursed harshly under his breath, letting a string of fowl words fill the air. "Not again."

Throughout the last few years, there was no reason to suspect another invasion of earth—at least that was known to be most probable. In fact, it was highly unlikely to happen with the known presence of those who protected the earth from such threats.

Despite this disbelief in future earth invasions, S.H.I.E.L.D. was always ready for future attacks. The helicarrier, which was now moved to a more subtle location not too far from New York City, hovered over a vast and empty field where they had privacy from most of the world. From this point, they could do their work in peace and continue to protect the world from these highly improbable threats—such as what was happening now.

"What are we supposed to do?" Maria's voice broke through the Director's thoughts, bringing him back to the present. He glanced up from his screen, watching as she looked over several of the monitors to get an understanding about the potential threat. She stopped moving, her brows knit together with concern as she looked at Fury for direction.

"We call them in," Fury stated. It had been awhile since they had been called in for anything this big, since they had only dealt with small interruptions as of late. But they would handle it well like they always did. He trusted them more than any of his other teams.

Maria gave a curt nod, swiftly walking out of the main console room. This threat could end up being another Loki-like invasion, or something even worse if that were possible. She knew that the quicker she was at fulfilling her job, the more time they had to keep the earth safe.

"Sir, the ship is entering the atmosphere."

Fury acknowledged the statement with a small nod, keeping his eye glued to the screen in front of him. "Where is it estimated to land?"

"Based on these calculations, it will be within thirty miles east of us, sir."

"Relay the message to Agent Hill. This will be the location she will give to the Avengers."

It wasn't every day that one would see a bunch of super-humans standing in the middle of a giant, empty field. About half an hour prior to this, the Avengers had received the call from S.H.I.E.L.D. about the imminent threat approaching the earth. It was early in the morning, the gray-blue sky still cold and lifeless with the occasional twinkle of a fading star. Not everyone was in the best of moods, specifically Clint, who found everything quite annoying this morning and made sure to let the rest of them know it by complaining loudly. He specifically would mention how miserable he was and the lack of sleep he was suffering from, since he and Tony had stayed up well into the night to watch horror movies.

Amused with this little show of his, Natasha watched as he paced around in the long grasses of the field, occasionally tripping in them when they would tangle around his feet. First, he would walk in circles. After a while, he would pace normally in a straight line, back and forth. Eventually, he would walk in circles again and the cycle would repeat, topped off with his whining. For such a tense situation, he didn't seem too concerned about it—which was typical of a sleepy Clint. He would get over it soon once the threat was actually here.

A beeping in her ear-com pulled her attention away from the disgruntled Clint. She pressed the button, listening closely to the information given to her.
